Background: With the acceleration of the aging process in China, traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)plays a unique advantage in solving the medical and health problems of the elderly. The state has always supported the development of community TCM undertakings, but there are still many problems with community TCM services, such as imbalance in supply and demand, and difficulty in meeting the actual needs of residents. Most studies explore the causes of the problem from the perspective of the service provider, but ignore that there may also be certain links between various factors. Objective: To explore the main factors that affect the demand for community TCM services among the elderly in Hefei from the perspective of the demand side, and analyze the size of the influencing factors and their path relationships; To provide decision-making support for improving the demand of elderly people for community TCM services in Hefei and promoting the better development of community TCM services in Hefei. Methods: Based on the planned behavior theory and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, combined with the characteristics of community TCM services,a questionnaire was developed on the influencing factors of the elderly population’s demand for community TCM services in Hefei, and stratified and proportional random sampling was used to obtain samples. After recovering the samples, descriptive analysis and reliability and validity tests were conducted on the samples. After that,a structural equation model of the elderly’s demand for community TCM services in Hefei was constructed, and the overall fitness of the model was tested, path analysis was conducted, and mediating effects were tested for some potential variables. Results: The scale used in this study can pass the reliability and validity test, and all eight research hypotheses have been verified. The specific conclusions are as follows:(1)The demand for community TCM services among the elderly in Hefei is determined by three factors: behavioral attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. The factors that positively affect elderly people’s utilization of community TCM services include behavioral intention and perceived behavioral control. The behavioral attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control of elderly people towards community TCM services can be positively correlated with each other.(2)Each potential variable has a measurement variable with the largest factor load corresponding to it.Among the five dimensions of behavioral attitude, subjective norms, perceptual behavior control, behavioral intention, and behavior, the largest factor load is BA4,SN1,PBC4,BI1,and BEH1.(3)In the process of influencing behavior through perceptual behavioral control, behavioral intention has a mediating effect. That is,the stronger the elderly’s perceptual behavioral control over community TCM services, the easier it is to utilize community TCM services when generating demand for community TCM services. Conclusion: To actively promote the participation of traditional Chinese medicine in community health services and enrich the content of community traditional Chinese medicine services, community traditional Chinese medicine services should provide convenience for the elderly, create a strong cultural atmosphere of traditional Chinese medicine, and elderly care services and community traditional Chinese medicine services should be integrated and developed. |
