PurposeThe purpose of this study was to introduce the Vanderbilt Head and Neck Symptom Survey(version 2.0)from the United States, and localize it in Chinese.A Chinese version of the Vanderbilt Head and Neck Symptom Survey(version 2.0)has been established to verify its reliability and validity in Chinese head and neck cancer(HNC)patients.MethodsIn the first part, after obtaining the consent and authorization of Barbara, the author of the original VHNSS 2.0 scale, the original scale was obtained, the scale was strictly followed the Brislin translation and back translation model for Chinese and cross-cultural adaptation, and the first draft of the Chinese version of VHNSS 2.0 was formed.Fifteen patients were selected as the research subjects for pre-survey,and the scale was modified based on feedback information to form the VHNSS 2.0 Chinese clinical test version scale. The second part is to test the reliability and validity of the Chinese clinical test version VHNSS 2.0.According to the scope of application of the scale and the classification of diseases,241 patients from four radiotherapy wards of a third-class hospital in Hefei City,Anhui Province were selected as the research objects by convenience sampling method, and the general survey scale and the Chinese clinical test version of the scale were used as a research tools. After 2 weeks,15 patients were selected to refill the scale to test the reliability of the scale.Excel tables was used to establish the databases, and SPSS26.0 software was used for statistical analysis, including descriptive statistical analysis of general patient data, scale item analysis, content validity analysis, exploratory factor analysis, internal consistency,half-reliability and reliability analysis.Results1.The Chinese version of the VHNSS 2.0 scale retains 48 items. The expression of each item is concise and easy to understand, including comprehensive symptoms and the patient acceptance is high.2.Item analysis The CR value of each item in the Chinese version of the VHNSS 2.0 scale is statistically significant, except for item 42,which has a CR value of 2.325.The CR values of other items are in the range of 4.026 to 15.035.The correlation coefficient between each item and the total score of the scale, except for item 42,the correlation coefficient value is 0.142(P < 0.05),the correlation coefficient value of the other items is in the range of 0.323 to 0.741,which are statistically significant.3.Scale validity analysis The validity of the Chinese version of VHNSS 2.0 is evaluated through content validity and construct validity. The I-CVI of the Chinese version of VHNSS 2.0 is 0.80 ~ 1.00,and the S-CVI is 0.932.The results showed that the number of factors with eigenvalues greater than 1 was10,and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 68.907%4.Scale reliability analysis Cronbach’s α coefficient and test-retest reliability co efficient are used to evaluate the reliability of the Chinese version of VHNSS 2.0.The Cronbach’s α coefficient of the Chinese version of VHNSS 2.0 was 0.948,half-reliability coefficient was 0.871,and the test-retest reliability coefficient was 0.834,except for the single-item dimensions and the dental health dimension Cronbach’s α coefficient, which is 0.667 and activity function dimension, which is 0.529,the Cronbach’s α coefficients of the other dimensions ranges from 0.796 to 0.916,and the test-retest reliability ranges from 0.642 to 0.949.ConclusionThe Chinese version of VHNSS 2.0 has reached the acceptance range of psychological measurement and is applicable. It can be used as an effective evaluation tool for clinical medical staff in China to evaluate the incidence and severity of acute or late smptoms in patients with head and neck cancer undergoing radiotherapy, and observe the changes of oral health during treament. |
