Objective Comparative analysis of the short-term efficacy of two embolization particles in the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage provides theoretical guidance for interventional radiologists to choose reasonable embolization agents during surgery. Methods Clinical data of postpartum hemorrhage patients who were successfully treated with interventional therapy in Hefei Third People’s Hospital from January 2019 to December 2022 were retrospectively analyzed,a total of 78 cases met the criteria, according to the types of embolization materials, there were divided into two groups: sponge group(n=40)and Polyvinyl alcohol group(n=38).There was no significant difference in preoperative general clinical characteristics between the GS group and the PVA group(P > 0.05),and the baseline data of the two groups were comparable.Postoperative blood loss, hemoglobin, blood pressure, blood transfusion and other indexes of the two groups were analyzed to compare the hemostatic ability of the two groups. We analyzed the incidence of complications of the length of hospital stay, the operation time and the first time to get out of bed to compare the short-term efficacy of the two groups. The first time to resume menstruation and the incidence of abnormal menstruation in the two groups were analyzed and the effects of the two embolization agents on menstruation were compared. Results There was no significant difference in postoperative blood pressure and hemoglobin between GS group and PVA group(P > 0.05),However,there were differences between the GS group and the PVA group before and after surgery.(P <0.05).Postoperative blood loss and blood transfusion were significantly different between the two groups(P < 0.05),and GS group was slightly higher than PVA group. The rate of postoperative complications was no statistic difference between GS group and PVA group and incidence of menstrual abnormalities between two groups(P >0.05).Conclusion 1.Uterine artery embolization in the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage has the advantages of high surgical success rate and fewer complications, which is worthy of clinical application.2.As embolic materials for postpartum hemorrhage, both GS particles and PVA particles can stop bleeding quickly and effectively. The operation time is short, patients recover quickly, and PVA particles have better hemostatic ability.3.There were few complications during postoperative hospitalization of the two embolization agents, and no serious complications occurred.During follow-up,all patients resumed their menstruation, and the influence of menstruation on patients was not significant. However, not many patient cases were collected in this study and its impact on the long-term fertility of patients needs to be confirmed by randomized controlled studies with large sample data.
