Objective: To compare and analyze the clinical effect and value of two surgical methods for Pectus excavatum patients. Methods: From January 2002 to January 2010,37 cases of Pectus Excavatum patients with the Haller index of 3.76-11.23 underwent sternal turnover surgery;and later, from March 2010 to December 2019,we performedthe modified Nuss minimally invasive surgery assisted by thoracoscope on 174 cases of Pectus Excavatum patients with the Haller index of 3.28-18.3.Results:The operation time, incidence rate of intra-post-operative complication, hospital stay, recurrence rate and the patients’ satisfaction score were 135 min vs 30.48 min,24.32%(9/37)vs 8.6%(15/174),6.6 days vs 6.5 days,18.9%(7/37)vs 0.0%(0/174)and91.89% vs 98.28% between sternal turnover surgery group and Modified Nuss group respectively. Conclusion: Comparing with sternal turnover surgery, the modified Nuss minimally invasive surgery is a simple surgical method with the advantages of shorter surgery time, smaller and hidden incision, fast postoperative recovery, shorter hospital stay and extremely high degree of patient satisfaction, which is worthy of clinical application and promotion.
