Objective:To investigate the common etiology spectrum and characteristics of peripheral vertigo. Methods:A total of 1800 patients with peripheral vertigo in the Department of Otolaryngology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from January 2021 to July 2022 were retrospectively collected and divided into outpatient group and inpatient group according to their source. The distribution of etiology spectrum and the characteristics of the two groups were analyzed.Results:(1)Among the 1800 patients admitted,1732 were in the outpatient group and 68 in the inpatient group. The top four etiological factors in the outpatient group were benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(BPPV)(46.68%),vestibular migraine VM(24.94%),Meniere’s disease(MD)(16.69%),vestibular neuritis(VN)(5.66%);the etiological spectrum of the hospitalization group during the same period was ranked by sudden hearing loss(SHL)with vertigo(30.88%),VM(20.95%),MD(17.65%),and VN(14.71%).⑵ The average age of patients in the outpatient group was 54163±14.353 years, with a male to female ratio of 1:1.68.In MD,the middle-aged group aged 45-59 years was more common,in VN,the young group aged ≤44 years was more common, and in BPPV and VM,the elderly group aged ≥60 years was more common. There were more females than males in BPPV and VM patients, and the above differences were tested to be statistically significant(P<0.05).(3)Patients with comorbidities accounted for 30.88%in the hospitalized group.Compared with other vertigo patients, the average hospitalization days were longer and the hospitalization costs were higher, but there was no significant difference in the positive rate of vestibular function.Conclusions:(1)The etiological spectrum of peripheral vertigo in outpatient group and inpatient group is not the same.BPPV is the most common disease in outpatient group, while SHL with vertigo is the most common disease in inpatient group.VN is more common in young group,MD is more common in middle-aged group,BPPV and VM are more common in elderly women.(3)Comorbidity has an impact on the diagnosis and treatment of patients with vertigo.
