Objective: To investigate the effects of an exercise intervention based on the ADOPT model on physical fitness, body composition, dialysis efficiency, exercise compliance, exercise self-efficacy and quality of life in maintenance haemodialysis patients. Methods:Ninety patients receiving maintenance haemodialysis in a tertiary hospital in Urumqi,Xinjiang, from November 2021 to July 2022 were selected for this study.45 patients in the intervention group and 45 patients in the control group were each enrolled in the study. The patients in the two groups were compared before and after the intervention in terms of fitness test, body composition index, dialysis adequacy, exercise compliance, exercise self-efficacy scale and quality of life scale scores.Result:(1)Before the intervention, there were no statistically significant differences in the general information, physical fitness, body composition, dialysis efficiency, exercise compliance, exercise self-efficacy and total quality of life scores and each dimension between the two groups(all P > 0.05).(2)After the intervention, the physical fitness indicators(upper limb muscle strength, lower limb muscle strength, dynamic balance and aerobic endurance),body fat percentage, dialysis adequacy, exercise self-efficacy score, exercise compliance and scores of each dimension, quality of life(somatic symptom dimension, fatigue dimension and interpersonal relationship dimension)and total scores of the intervention group were better than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant(all P < 0.05).(3)When comparing the intervention group before and after the intervention itself, all dimensions of physical fitness(upper limb muscle strength, lower limb muscle strength, lower limb flexibility, balance and aerobic endurance),body composition(body fat percentage,SMI,phase angle, muscle mass,MAC,MAMC),dialysis adequacy, exercise self-efficacy,exercise compliance and total score, and quality of life(somatic, fatigue and interpersonal relationship dimensions)were better than those before the intervention, and the differences were The difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).(4)When comparing the control group before and after the intervention, except for the lower limb muscle strength, upper limb flexibility, exercise monitoring compliance and active advice seeking dimensions, all other dimensions were not statistically significant(P>0.05).(5)Comparing the change values before and after the intervention between the two groups, the intervention group outperformed the control group in all dimensions of physical fitness(upper limb muscle strength, lower limb muscle strength, lower limb flexibility, dynamic balance and aerobic endurance),body fat percentage, dialysis adequacy, exercise self-efficacy,exercise compliance and total quality of life score and change in somatic symptoms, and the differences were statistically significant(all P < 0.05).Conclusion: ADOPT-based exercise intervention is safe and feasible to help patients establish exercise behaviour and can effectively improve physical fitness, body composition, dialysis efficiency, exercise adherence, exercise self-efficacy and quality of life levels in MHD patients.
