Study On The Correlation Between Suicidal Ideation And Cognitive Function In Late-life Depression

Objective: To explore the correlation between suicidal ideation and cognitive function in late-life depression,to explore the influencing factors of suicidal ideation in late-life depression patients.Methods: Late-life depression patients were selected from the Department of Clinical Psychology of People’s Hospital of Autonomous Region and the Geriatric Department of Mental Health Center in Urumqi from Jun.2021 to Dec.2022.They met the diagnostic criteria for depression disorder of mental and behavior disorders in tenth edition of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases(ICD-10),over 60 years old.A total of 74 patients with depression disorder were included.The cognitive function of the patients was assessed by Mini-mental Status Examination(MMSE),Montreal Cognitive Assessment(Mo CA),Digit Span Test(DST),Hopkins Verbal Learning Test Revised(HVLT-R),Shape Trail Test(STT).Suicidal ideation was assessed with Self-rating Idea of Suicide Scale(SIOSS).74 late-life depression patients were divided into suicidal ideation group(n=32)and non-suicidal group(n=42).SPSS25.0 was used to analyze the data,ttest was used to measurement data,chi-square test was used to counting data,and the influence factors of suicidal ideation and were analyzed by Logistic regression.Results:(1)There were no significant differences in age,gender,nation,education year,marital status,monthly income,basic disease between the two group(P>0.05).Whether living alone have significant differences between the two groups(P < 0.05).(2)Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)scores(Z=4.266,P<0.001),Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)scores(Z=3.376,P=0.001),Social Support Revalued Scale(SSRS)scores(Z=3.482,P < 0.001),Montreal Cognitive Assessment(Mo CA)scores(Z=1.990,P=0.047),Digit Span Test(DST)scores(Z=2.497,P=0.013),were significantly different between the 2 groups.The HAMD and PSQI scores were higher in the suicide ideation group,and the SSRS,Mo CA,DST scores were lower than the other group.(3)Binary Logistic regression analysis of suicidal ideation showed that:diabetes(B=3.390,OR=0.034,P=0.040),HAMD(B=0.536,OR=1.709,P=0.005),PS QI(B=0.239,OR=1.270,P=0.028),Mo CA(B=0.390,OR=0.677,P=0.017),MMSE(B=3.390,OR=0.034,P=0.040),subject social support(B=-0.575,OR=0.563,P=0.043)was statistically significant on suicidal ideation(4)Suicidal ideation in late-life depression patients may be associated with their cognitive function.Suicidal ideation was not significantly associated with mild impaired cognitive function,but was significantly associated with moderate and severe impaired cognitive function((33)=2.120,OR=8.333,P=0.017).(5)Years of education is an influencing factor in latelife depression patients with moderate and severe impaired cognitive function((33)=0.496,OR=0.609,P=0.028).Conclusion: Diabetes,Insomnia,cognitive function,lower social supports are dangerous factors that affecting suicidal ideation in late-life depression.Suicidal ideation in late-life depression is associated with cognitive function,moderate and severe impaired cognitive function are influencing factors of suicidal ideation.Lower education is influencing factors for severe impaired cognitive function in late-life depression.
