Sealing Ability Of Three Root Canal Sealers Using Single-cone Obturation Technique In Vitro: A Micro-CT Study

Objective: The aim of this experiment was to evaluate and compare the filling rate of long oval shape root canals filled with different root canal sealers(iRoot SP,C-Root SP and GuttaFlow2),so as to reveal the sealing ability of these sealers and guide clinical practice.Methods: Thirty-five extracted premolars with single root canal in long oval shape in vitro were randomly divided into 4 groups,including 3 experimental groups(n=10;GF2represents GuttaFlow2,iRSP represents iRoot SP,CRSP represents C-Root SP),in which root canals were filled with both root canal sealer and gutta-percha,and a control group(n=5),in which root canals were filled with gutta-percha only.All root canals were prepared with 1% Na Cl O,17% EDTA and Nickle Titanium files to 35#/.04.Final rinse was done with distilled water.Root canals were obturated with iRoot SP,C-Root SP or GuttaFlow2 combined with gutta-percha respectively,or gutta-percha only using single-cone obturation technique.Then all orifices were sealed with glass ionomer.After that,all extracted teeth were storing in an incubator in condition of 37 ℃ and 100%humidity for 14 days,and then they were scanned using Micro-CT and analysed using Data Viewer,CTAn and CTVol.The filling rate of the whole obturated length and 3segments(including coronal,middle and apical third)was calculated.Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS.3D models were reconstructed using CTVol.Results: For the whole obturated length and 3 segments,the filling rate of 3 experimental groups were significantly higher than that of control group(P<0.05).For the whole obturated length,the filling rate of iRoot SP(96.11%)and C-Root SP(97.34%)was significantly higher than that of GuttaFlow2(91.27%)respectively(P<0.05).For the middle and apical third,The filling rate of C-Root SP(99.04% for middle third,99.57%for apical third)was significantly higher than that of GuttaFlow2(90.85% for middle third,89.91% for apical third)(P<0.05).For the whole obturated length and 3 segments,the filling rate of iRoot SP(96.11% for the whole obturated length,94.81% for coronal third,98.19% for middle third,97.82% for apical third)and C-Root SP(97.34% for the whole obturated length,94.81% for coronal third,99.04% for middle third,99.57% for apical third)was similar(P>0.05).Conclusion: The sealing ability of root canal obturated with GuttaFlow2,iRoot SP or C-Root SP was better than that without sealer.For the whole obturated length,iRoot SP and C-Root SP showed better sealing ability than GuttaFlow2.For the middle and apical third,C-Root SP showed better sealing ability than GuttaFlow2.For the whole obturated length and 3 segments,C-Root SP and iRoot SP showed similar sealing ability.
