| Objectives:To clarify the current status of social support, posttraumatic growth, and quality of life in maintenance hemodialysis patients;to explore the effect of general information on quality of life;to examine the relationship between social support, posttraumatic growth, and quality of life;to investigate the mediation role of posttraumatic growth between social support and quality of life. Methods:In this study,cross-sectional research was employed.A convenience sampling method was used to select 215 maintenance hemodialysis patients treated at two Grade A tertiary hospitals in Shenyang from October 2021 to May 2022 as the study population, and the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Brief Scale(KDQOL-36TM),Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS),Posttraumatic Growth Rating Scale(PTGI)and General Information Questionnaire were used to conduct the survey.SPSS 25.0software was used for data analysis.Descriptive analysis was used to describe general information, social support,post-traumatic growth, and quality of life scores of maintenance hemodialysis patients.Independent samples t-test or ANOVA was used to explore the effect of general information on the quality of life of maintenance hemodialysis patients.Spearman’s correlation analysis was used to explore the correlation between social support,post-traumatic growth, and quality of life.Multiple linear regression was used to explore the factors influencing quality of life in maintenance hemodialysis patients.Model 4 of the Process macro program was used to analyze mediating effects and Bootstrap test for mediating effects.Results:(1)Maintenance hemodialysis patients scored(36.55±8.32)for social support,(42.30±17.05)for posttraumatic growth,and(54.93±14.27)for quality of life.(2)The findings of the univariate analysis revealed that the differences in the scores of the quality of life in terms of per capita monthly household income, education level, and knowledge of their own diseases were statistically significant(P<0.05).(3)The findings of the correlation study revealed that the dimension of personal strength in posttraumatic growth and the utilization of social support did not significantly correlate(rs=0.130,P=0.056),although the other dimensions did(rs=0.163~0.520,P<0.05);The overall score of social support and its dimensions were substantially and positively connected with the overall score of quality of life and its dimensions(rs=0.293~0.681,P<0.01),as were the overall score of posttraumatic growth and its dimensions(rs=0.170~0.536,P<0.05).(4)The results of multiple linear regression showed that social support(β=0.544,P<0.001)and post-traumatic growth(β=0.266,P<0.001)could positively predict the quality of life, explaining 51.0%of the total variables(R2=0.510).(5)With a mediating role of 18.71%,posttraumatic growth partially mediated the association between social support and quality of life.Conclusions:(1)The social support score of maintenance hemodialysis patients was located at a moderate level;the posttraumatic growth score was located at a moderate to low level;and the quality of life score was located at a moderate level and needed to be improved.(2)In terms of per capita household income, education level, and knowledge of their disease, maintenance hemodialysis patients’quality of life scores varied significantly.(3)There was a significant positive relationship between social support, posttraumatic growth, and quality of life.(4)Social support and post-traumatic growth are factors affecting quality of life, which can significantly predict the quality of life of maintenance hemodialysis patients.(5)Posttraumatic growth partially mediated the relationship between social support and quality of life. The mental health of patients should receive more attention from medical staff, who should also encourage patients to have a positive outlook on illness through strengthening social support,in order to enhance their quality of life. |
