Purpose of the study:In this study,we evaluated the efficacy and safety of the treatment of refractory epilepsy RE by comparing the number of seizures, duration,EEG,quality of life scale and TCM epilepsy syndrome score before and after the treatment, and provided evidence-based medical support for the prevention and treatment of this disease. This study was conducted to provide evidence-based medical support for the prevention and treatment of this disease.Research method:40 patients with RE who met the criteria of this study were enrolled in this study. On the basis of maintaining the current treatment of antiepileptic drugs, the patients were treated with self-made epilepsy prescription for 3 months.(Before treatment, after treatment,3 months after stopping taking traditional Chinese medicine),according to the number of seizures,EEG results, quality of life assessment scale for epilepsy patients(QOLIE-31)and TCM epilepsy symptom score to judge the efficacy, and according to the side effects of oral drugs for patients, according to the patient’s blood routine,PT series examination and liver and kidney function to evaluate the safety of medication. Results of the study:This experiment included 40 patients with intractable epilepsy of wind-phlegm blocking orifices type.During the 3-month treatment period, the patients had good compliance and no drop-out.The data of this group of cases were statistically analyzed, and the following results were obtained:1.The number of seizures was 7.90±3.25 times/month and the duration was 3.98±1.73min/time before treatment. The number of seizures was 3.88±2.31times/month and the duration was 2.21±0.95 min/time after treatment. The number of seizures was 3.18±1.77 times/month and the duration was2.71±0.95 min/time after treatment. After treatment and 3 months after stopping taking Chinese medicine, the frequency and duration of attacks were significantly decreased compared with those before treatment(P<0.01).2.The average score of QOLIE-31 scale before attack was 41.40±7.11 points, after treatment, the average score of QOLIE-31 scale was 58.23±6.44 points, and the average score 3 months after stopping taking traditional Chinese medicine was 59.53±4.22 points.Compared with the scores before treatment, the scores were improved, with significant statistical difference(P<0.01).3.The total scores of TCM syndromes were 44.75±7.39,21.45±9.68 and20.53±9.61 before and after treatment and 3 months after stopping taking traditional Chinese medicine respectively, which were significantly decreased after treatment and 3 months after stopping taking traditional Chinese medicine compared with those before treatment(P<0.01).in that TCM integral of main syndromes, the score of direct vision of eyes, facial distortion, twitching of hands and feet, wheezing of phlegm in throat and dizziness before treatment were as follows: 3.55±1.24,2.80±1.80,3.85±1.31,4.000±1.36 and 4.00±1.57 points;1.85±1.66,1.55±1.78,2.00±1.43,2.13±1.51 and 1.70±1.67 points after treatment;2.60±2.28,2.13±1.74,2.20±1.56,2.58±1.75 and 1.97±1.49 points after discontinuation of the drug, which were also decreased to different degrees compared with those before treatment. After rank sum test, the difference of "facial distortion" was statistically significant(P <0.05),and the difference of the other four items was statistically significant(P <0.01)compared with that before treatment. All the items were significantly improved after treatment compared with that before treatment, with statistically significant(P<0.01).4.During the treatment,2 patients in this group had nausea and vomiting,1 patient had rash,1 patient felt tired and slightly sleepy. After symptomatic treatment such as anti-allergy,acid suppression and stomach protection, the symptoms were improved without affecting the treatment.During the treatment,no abnormality was found in blood routine,PT series and liver and kidney function.Conclusion:1.The self-designed epilepsy prescription has a definite effect on wind-phlegm-closed and difficult-to-treat epilepsy, improving patients’ clinical symptoms and TCM syndromes It can reduce the frequency and duration of attacks.2.Self-designed epileptic formula is safe and efficient with few adverse reactions, which needs further research and clinical application.
