Objective:To retrospectively compare the short-term efficacy and safety of radiofrequency thermocoagulation via the foramen rotundum under CT guidance in the treatment of primary trigeminal nerve branch II pain.Methods:Ninety-one patients with primary trigeminal nerve branch II pain were retrospectively analyzed, and the patients were divided into two groups according to the existing treatment modalities:group T was a traditional straight-needle approach(CT-guided straight-needle approach through the foramen rotundum on the intercoronal notch of the mandibular condyle),and group G was a modified curved-needle approach(CT-guided curved-needle approach through the foramen rotundum at the intersection of the zygomatic arch and the anterior border of the mandibular coronoid process). The number of intraoperative punctures and intraoperative CT irradiation were compared between the T and G groups;the postoperative PSS scores,VAS scores before(T0),one day after(T1),fourteen days after(T2),three months after(T3),and six months after(T4)were compared between the two groups.Comparison of postoperative complications and recurrence rates between T and G groups. Results:Patients in T and G groups had significantly lower postoperative VAS and PSS compared with pre-treatment(P<0.05).The mean number of intraoperative punctures in group G was smaller than that in group T,and the difference between them was not statistically significant(4.03±0.84 times in group T,3.84±0.71 times in group G,P>0.05);the mean number of intraoperative CT localization irradiation in group G was smaller than that in group T,and the difference between them was statistically significant(4.04±0.54 times in group T,3.73±0.54 times in group G,P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference between all postoperative complications and recurrence rates in the T and G groups, and most of the complications had resolved during the observation period.Conclusions:1.Both the traditional straight needle approach and the modified curved needle approach are effective and safe treatment modalities;2.The modified approach group has fewer intraoperative CT shots than the traditional approach group, which results in less radiation exposure to the patient;...
