Objective: To analyze the degeneration of multifidus with semispinalis cervicis between the cervical 5th and 6th segments(C5 and 6),the degeneration of the diseased intervertebral disc, and the correlation between the paravertebral muscle and the degeneration of the intervertebral disc in patients with Cervical spondylotic radiculopathy(CSR)through the retrospective study of imaging data,so as to form a deeper understanding of the pathogenesis and pathological changes of CSR and provide new ideas for its prevention and treatment. Methods: The existing medical records of patients with CSR who were admitted into the Department of Spinal Orthopaedics,Guilin People’s Hospital affiliated to Guilin Medical University were selected.Using PACS imaging system software, complete and appropriate data were selected and collected.Imaging changes of the multifibrosis and semisinospinous muscles in patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy were evaluated in detail in multiple directions, and degeneration of cervical intervertebral discs at diseased segments was also evaluated. At the same time, the degeneration of cervical intervertebral disc in diseased segment was evaluated. The main parameters of imaging evaluation were as follows: muscle area on MRI cross-section,muscle fat infiltration(MFI)on MRI cross-section,intervertebral height index(IHI)on CT median sagittal plane. In this study,IBM SPSS 26.0 software was used to analyze the data. Results: 1.The cross-sectional area of multifidus with semispinalis cervicis at affected side was larger than that at contralateral side, and the difference was statistically significant(p < 0.05);2.The fat fraction(FF)of multifidus with semispinalis cervicis at affected side was higher than that at contralateral side, and the difference was statistically significant(p < 0.05);3.There was a statistical correlation between FF and IHI of multifidus with semispinalis cervicis at affected side(p < 0.05);4.There was no significant correlation between IHI and FF of multifidus with semispinalis cervicis at contralateral side(p > 0.05).5.There was no significant correlation between gender, age, height, body weight,BMI,area multifidus with semispinalis cervicis at affected side as well as area of multifidus with semispinalis cervicis at contralateral side and IHI(p > 0.05).Conclusions: In patients with CSR,there are different degrees of fat infiltration in the multifidus with semispinalis beside the cervical vertebra, and the cross-sectional area of the muscles will change when the lesions occur. There is a significant relationship between the degree of fat infiltration of multifidus with semispinalis cervicis at affected side and cervical instability in patients with CSR.Muscle can result in degeneration of intervertebral disc, and intervertebral disc can also lead to degeneration of muscle, which is mutually causal.
