| ObjectiveBased on the extensions-construction theory of gratitude as the theoretical framework, this study formulated a gratitude intervention program suitable for Chinese patients with cancer chemotherapy as follows, implemented and evaluated the effects of this gratitude intervention program on fear of progression, gratitude level and subjective well-being of Chinese patients with breast cancer chemotherapy.MethodA total of 99 patients with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy were selected from October 2021 to October 2022 in the Department of breast Surgery of a three-level hospital in Guangzhou,Guangdong Province.Patients were divided into groups according to the time of admission,54 in the control group and 45 in the intervention group. In this study, the control group received conventional nursing, and the intervention group received 6-week gratitude intervention program on the basis of conventional nursing, including gratitude meditation, gratitude record, gratitude visit and gratitude activity interaction. The general data questionnaire, the Simplified Fear Disease Progression Scale, the Gratitude questionnaire, and the Newfoundland Well-being Scale were used to collect data of the two groups of patients on the day of admission, after the end of intervention,3 weeks and 6 weeks after the intervention, and to evaluate the effect of the intervention.Result1.The study included 94 patients,52 in the control group and 42 in the intervention group.Baseline data of the two groups were comparable(P > 0.05).2.The results of repeated measure analysis of variance showed that the intergroup effect, time effect and interaction effect of the score of fear progression in the two groups were statistically significant(P < 0.05).Simple effect analysis showed that the scores of fear of progression in the intervention group were lower than those in the control group after the intervention,3 weeks and 6 weeks after the intervention, and the differences were statistically significant(P < 0.05).3.Repeated measures analysis of variance showed that the intergroup effect, time effect and interaction effect of gratitude scores in the two groups were statistically significant(P < 0.05).Simple effect analysis showed that gratitude scores of patients in the intervention group were higher than those in the control group after the intervention,3 weeks and6 weeks after the intervention, with statistical significance(P < 0.05).4.Repeated measures analysis of variance showed that there was no statistical significance in the intergroup effect of subjective well-being scores in the two groups(P> 0.05),while the time effect and interaction effect were statistically significant(P < 0.05).Simple effect analysis showed that the subjective well-being score of the intervention group was higher than that of the control group after the intervention, but the difference was not statistically significant(P > 0.05).The subjective well-being score of the intervention group was higher than that of the control group at the 3rd and 6th week after the intervention, and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05).ConclusionGratitude intervention guided by the theory of gratitude extension and construction can reduce the level of fear disease progression and improve the level of gratitude and subjective well-being of patients with breast cancer chemotherapy. |
