Part 1 Study of muscle and tendon elasticity in normal subjects by real-time shear wave elastographyObjective:The stiffness of biceps brachii, triceps brachii, quadriceps femoris, gastrocn emius and their corresponding tendons were quantified in normal subjects using real-time shear wave elastography, and the normal range of stiffness values of these musclesand tendons were analyzed in relation to gender and age. Methods:One hundred and twenty-two normal subjects, aged 20~80 years, with a mean of(51.91 ± 15.15)years old, were selected from our hospital from September 2021 to September 2022,of whom 64 were male and 58 were female.Group N1: 40 people 20 ~ 40 years old average(34.42 ± 5.32)years old.Group N2: 42 people 41 ~ 60 years old average(52.23 ± 5.52)years old.Group N3: 40 people > 60 years old average(69.05 ± 6.04)years old.The Young’s modulus values of biceps brachii, triceps brachii, quadriceps femoris, gastrocnemius and the corresponding tendons were measured in the relaxed state using the shear wave elastography function of the Siemens ACUSON Sequoia ultrasound diagnostic instrument, and the normal range of the stiffness values of the above muscles and tendons were analyzed in relation to age and sex.Results:1.No statistically significant difference in Young’s modulus values of the above muscles and tendons between the male and female groups of normal subjects(P >0.05).2.No statistically significant difference in Young’s modulus values between the left and right sides of the above muscles and tendons in normal subjects(P > 0.05).3.Comparison of Young’s modulus values of biceps brachii, biceps tendons(long head tendon and distal tendon),and quadriceps tendons in normal subjects of all age groups, with statistically significant differences(P < 0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the comparison of Young’s modulus values of triceps brachii, quadriceps femoris and gastrocnemius muscles in each age group of normal subjects(P > 0.05).4.Correlation analysis(1)Young’s modulus values of the biceps brachii in normal subjects were positively correlated with age(P < 0.05);(2)Young’s modulus values of the long head biceps brachii tendon, distal biceps brachii tendon, and quadriceps tendon in normal subjects were negatively correlated with age(P < 0.05);(3)Young’s modulus values of the triceps, rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedius, vastus medialis in normal subjects, there was no correlation with age(P > 0.05).Conclusion:Real-time shear wave elastography can evaluate the stiffness of muscles and tendons, providing a relevant basis for the diagnosis, treatment and efficacy assessment of muscle and tendon diseases in clinical practice, and has a high application value. The feasibility of the evaluation process in the relaxed state is high, and the data evaluation is well standardized.Part 2 Study of muscle and tendon elasticity in Parkinson’s disease patients by real-time shear wave elastographyObjective:To measure the stiffness values of biceps brachii, triceps brachii, quadriceps femoris, gastrocnemius and their corresponding tendons in Parkinson’s disease using real-timeshear wave elastography,to analyse the characteristics of abnormal muscle tonein Parkinson’s disease and to evaluate the value of SWE technique in theassessment of muscle and tendon lesions in Parkinson’s disease patients. Methods:A total of 50 patients with clinically confirmed Parkinson’s disease(PD)were selected, including 29 males and 21 females, with an average age of(69.72 ± 5.28)years old.The Young’s modulus values of biceps brachii, triceps brachii, quadriceps femoris, gastrocnemius and the corresponding tendons in PD patients in the relaxed state were measured using the shear wave elastography function of the ACUSON Sequoia type ultrasound diagnostic instrument from Siemens,USA,and the characteristics of abnormal muscle tone in Parkinson’s disease were analyzed. The randomized side of the first part N3 group was used as a control group for comparison.Results:1.Young’s modulus values of biceps brachii, triceps brachii, quadriceps, long head biceps brachii tendon, distal biceps brachii tendon, and quadriceps tendon were higher in the PD group on the symptomatic side and the less symptomatic side than in the control group(P < 0.05).2.Young’s modulus values of biceps brachii, long head biceps brachii tendon, distal biceps brachii tendon, vastus intermedius, vastus lateralis and quadriceps tendon were higher in the PD group on the symptomatic side than on the less symptomatic side(P < 0.05).3.There was no statistically significant difference between the Young’s modulus values of the symptomatic side of triceps brachii, rectus femoris and vastus medialis in the PD group compared with the less symptomatic side(P > 0.05).4.There was no statistically significant difference between the Young’s modulus values of the symptomatic side of the PD group, the less symptomatic side, and the gastrocnemius muscle of the control group(P > 0.05).Conclusion:Real-time shear wave elastography can be used to detect the stiffness values of muscles and tendons in patients with Parkinson’s disease, assess the muscle and tendon lesions in PD patients, and provide an objective basis for clinical diagnosis, treatment and efficacy assessment of Parkinson’s disease.
