| The purpose of this article is to discuss the nature, form and territorial governance of the feudal lords in the Warring States period on the basis of the research results of predecessors by combining the documents handed down from ancient times and unearthed materials. After introducing the academic history, main research methods and materials, the first chapter of the paper discusses the title and its meaning of Fengjun, pointing out that, unlike traditional cognition,"Gong","Hou" and "Jun" can all refer to Fengjun in the Warring States Period. In contrast,"Jun" is more extensive and "Hou" is more specific.Although these three titles have gone through a complicated development process, they are actually the surnames of aristocratic manors or bureaucratic manors. When they have the title of "monarch",the monarch may also have the title of "hou" or "gong".Therefore,it can be said that Fengjun is actually another development form of the Western Zhou Dynasty enfeoffment system. The second chapter discusses the relationship between suzerain and fengjun.Traditional understanding generally generalizes the relationship between monarch and suzerain as ruling and being ruled. The sovereign state has absolute compulsory power over the monarch, and the territory of the monarch belongs to the sovereign state. While systematically combing the traditional knowledge, this article depicts another aspect of the relationship between the monarch and the sovereign state from the unearthed documents and the documents handed down from ancient times. In other words, the relationship between the monarch and the suzerain is by no means just a control-obedience model.Although the monarch is the suzerain and has many obligations to the suzerain,he still exists as a "state" similar to the suzerain in nature and has independence on many levels. The third chapter of the thesis reveals the form of Fengjun from his control over his field.Fengjun has relatively complete power in his fief, covering military, administrative, economic and etiquette aspects from the perspective of official position. In terms of population, although the population of Fengjun has mobility to a certain extent, its relationship with Fengjun is still personal attachment to a certain extent. |
