A Research On The Management Model And Value Of Art Performances Upon Anniversary Celebrations Of Xiamen University

This research,the subject of which is art performance in university anniversary celebrations,tries to explore the management model and cultural capital of art performances in anniversary celebrations organized by Xiamen University over the past 10 years.While applying methods such as in-depth interview and literature review,this case study on Xiamen University also adopted art management theories and sought strength from the "theory of cultural capital" in art sociology and approaches to the management of cultural programmes.After reviewing all art performances in celebrations presented by Xiamen University over the years,the author conducted a case study on three most representative art performances.It is found that art performance in university anniversary celebrations,as a kind of aesthetic symbol,serves as a ritual event with special cultural functions,which is conducive to building community relationship,improving collective identity and enhancing ritual experience.High-quality art performances in university celebrations contribute to the improvement of students’ ability to appreciate culture and art,the creation of exceptional art works on campus,and the formation of cultural system in universities.In essence,art performance in university anniversary celebrations serves as the medium to transform intangible cultural resources at universities into tangible cultural capital.Universities create their distinctive cultural capital on the basis of the understanding,reviewing and integration of their own cultural resources,and they create value from such cultural capital in the form of art performances on stage.In execution,such art performances need to be scheduled and arranged on the basis of academic year and to be flexibly managed with a mix of methods so that the performances can be delivered as planned.And psychological counselling to student performers is a key component in risk management of art performance in university anniversary celebrations.The research,by combining theoretic value study and practice-oriented approach exploration,looks at art performance in university anniversary celebrations through a brand-new perspective.It attaches great importance to non-physical elements in performance and discusses how cultural resources are transformed into cultural capital through the medium of art performance in university anniversary celebrations.The research prompts the discussion on the value of such university art performances to expand from the physical and material area to the non-physical and mental area.It explores the capital attributes and interests embedded in art performances and attempts to interpret some innovative art presentations in art performances in anniversary celebrations by Xiamen University,presentations that contribute to the transformation of cultural resources into cultural capital.
