Study Of Gu Jiqi’s Life And Poetry

Gu Jiqi was a poet in Zhaozhou,Yunnan Province who was mainly active in the Qianlong and Jiaqing years of the Qing Dynasty.He had close contacts with many important poets in Yunnan at that time,such as Shi Fang,Qian Feng,Shi Peiying,Zhang Pengsheng and Yan Lang.He also made friends with some literators in the Central Plains,such as Wu Xiqi,Weng Fanggang,Chu Pengling,Li Yichou and Bao Shichen,when he was an official in Beijing.Gu Jiqi had been highly praised for his service as an official,a teacher and a poet.But constrained by geographical factors,the current academic research on Gu Jiqi has not fully developed,which is mainly embodied in his life,interpersonal relationship,content and characteristics of his poetry,poetics thoughts.There was especially a lack of special research on poetry based on his life experience,which would be fundamental and holistic.This paper discussed from two levels of excavating Gu Jiqi’s life data and analyzing his poetry writing.Firstly,through extensive collection and collation of various documents,this paper made a comprehensive textual research on Gu Jiqi’s family background,life and friends by using relevant materials,so as to describe his more complete life appearance and provide effective argument support for the following research from the perspective of knowing people and discussing the world.Secondly,it made a comprehensive introduction to Gu Jiqi’s poetry writing,mainly based on the poetry content,classified and analyzed all his poems,and summarized the specific characteristics of his poetry writing from the perspectives of language,skills,thought and emotion.Finally,this paper attempted to explore Gu Jiqi’s poetic pursuit and poetic thought from his works,and madd an appropriate theoretical analysis combined with his writing experience.On this basis,combined with the development characteristics of poetry in the Qing Dynasty and the overall situation of poetry in Yunnan in the Qing Dynasty,it made an appropriate evaluation of the status and value of Gu Jiqi’s poetry.In the appendix at the end of the paper,there were Gu Jiqi Genealogy Table,New Edition of Gu Jiqi’s Chronology,Lost Poems of Gu Jiqi and A Collection of Gu Jiqi’s Poetics Recorded In The Notes of Great Confucian Poems of Previous Dynastiescompiled compiled by the author to support the research of the main text.Because the later poems of Gu Jiqi’s poems had been deleted and changed by himself,the overall poetic style was relatively natural,and other talented poems needed to be deeply studied before the discovery of historical materials.At present,after the comprehensive studied of Gu Jiqi’s family,life,friendship and his poetry creation,this paper hold that Gu Jiqi’s poetry style was ancient and light,and can be consistent with the mainstream poetry style at that time.However,looking at the whole Qing Dynasty poetry circle,his poetry seems not to show an unusually dazzling light,and the reasons still need to be carefully found in an endless stream.Even so,Gu Jiqi focused on the ancient light landscape understanding poems and the personal character and creative style displayed in his poetry,and still influenced the surrounding local poets in the Yunnan culture circle at that time.Therefore,Gu Jiqi’s poetry should be an important part in the history of Yunnan literature in the middle of the Qing Dynasty,and its value cannot be ignored.
