Influence Of The Dark Triad On Online Aggressive Behavior Of Middle School Students: Mediating Effect Of Beliefs In Pure Evil

Under the background of the Internet era,surfing the Internet has become a part of the daily life of middle school students,and the Internet also provides them with platforms and weapons to carry out attacks.As the dark side of personality,the dark triad has been shown to influence the online aggressive behavior.Beliefs in pure evil describes a concept that people believe there are pure evil people in the world.Foreign studies show that beliefs in pure evil are closely related to the dark triad and aggressive behavior.In this paper,two studies were conducted.In the first study,the scale of beliefs in pure evils developed by Webster,a foreign scholar,was quoted and revised in Chinese version.In the second study,the influence of the dark triad and beliefs in pure evils on middle school students’ online aggressive behavior was mainly discussed,as well as the mediating effect of beliefs in pure evils on the dark triad and online aggressive behavior.In study 1,the scale of beliefs in pure evils was revised by referring to Webster and Saucier,a foreign scholar,and was committed to forming a Chinese version of the scale of beliefs in pure evils suitable for the Chinese cultural background.SPSS26.0 was used for item analysis and exploratory factor analysis,and AMOS21.0 was used for confirmative factor analysis,finally forming a Chinese version of the scale of beliefs in pure evils.The scale contains 12 questions and 3dimensions,named as intentional injury,injury motivation and attitude of punishing evil,with 4 questions for each dimension.The results showed that the scale had good reliability and validity,and the internal consistency of each dimension of the scale was 0.882,0.840 and 0.830,respectively.The modified model fitting index met the statistical requirements,χ~2/df =1.592,GFI,AGFI,CFI and IFI fitting indexes were all greater than 0.9.RMSEA is less than 0.08.In the second study,the middle school students from several schools in Henan Province were investigated by questionnaire survey.The research tools were dark Personality Triad Scale(DD),Online Aggressive Behavior Scale(OABS)and Chinese version of Beliefs in pure evils Scale(BPE).The reliability and validity of the questionnaires were tested by SPSS26.0.Descriptive statistics;independent sample T test,one-way ANOVA,correlation analysis and regression analysis were conducted for the data.Finally,SPSS macro program PROCESS was used for intermediary analysis,and the results were as follows:(1)The differences of demographic variables of dark triad,beliefs in pure evil and online aggressive behavior were tested.The results showed that the scores of dark triad and online aggressive behavior were significantly different in gender(t=2.051,p<0.05)(t=1.984,p<0.05),the scores of boys were higher than girls,but there was no significant difference in beliefs in pure evil score.There were no significant differences among the three variables in grade;In the difference test of only children,the scores of dark triad and beliefs in pure evil were not significantly different,but the scores of online aggressive behavior were significantly different(t=2.776,p<0.01),the score of the only-child is higher than that of the non-only-child.(2)The correlation test of dark triad,beliefs in pure evil and online aggressive behavior shows that there is a significant positive correlation between dark triad and beliefs in pure evil(r=0.279,p<0.01),dark triad was positively correlated with online aggressive behavior(r=0.329,p<0.01),there was a significant positive correlation between beliefs in pure evil and online aggressive behavior(r=0.293,p<0.01).(3)Regression analysis and mediation test were conducted on dark triad,beliefs in pure evil and online aggressive behavior.The results showed that dark triad and beliefs in pure evil could positively predict online aggressive behavior,and beliefs in pure evil played a partial mediating role between dark triad and online aggressive behavior,with the mediating effect accounting for 18.56% of the total effect.Therefore,the online aggressive behavior of middle school students will be affected by the personality trait group of dark triad and beliefs in pure evil,especially the difference in gender and only child.In addition,the role of beliefs in pure evil in the dark triad and online aggressive behavior also needs attention.
