An Archaeological Study Of Wu Yue’s "Gou Diao"

"Gou Diao" is a kind of percussion instrument with clock style,which mainly appeared in the Wu-Yue area in the spring and Autumn and warring States period,with strong regional characteristics.This paper takes “Gou Diao” as the research object,makes an archaeological study of it and explores some problems.This paper is divided into five parts:The introduction part gives a brief description of the research background.First of all,it is explained that the author has selected the topic because“Gou Diao”is the characteristic musical instrument of Wu and Yue,the research of“Gou Diao”is very weak,and the unearthed materials of“Gou Diao”are increasing in recent years.Secondly,“Wu Yue”integrates the meanings of national,regional,ethnic group and culture.Its time category is from the early Western Zhou Dynasty to the warring States period,and its spatial category includes Jiangsu,Zhejiang,Shanghai,southern Anhui and northeastern Jiangxi.The meaning of“Gou Diao”is related to the function of sacrifice The pronunciation of“Gou Diao”is“gōu diào”and the writing is“句鑃”.This paper also uniformly the names of each part of“Gou Diao”Finally,it shows that this paper uses archaeological typology,archaeological stratigraphy,comparative study and statistical inductive analysis to try to comprehensively and systematically study“Gou Diao”and unveil its mystery,so as to lay the foundation for further research in the future.The first chapter is the discovery and study of “Gou Diao”.First of all,it is divided into six parts: Shandong,Jiangsu,Zhejiang,Anhui,Guangdong and other area,which are introduced respectively according to the time sequence of the discovery of“Gou Diao”.Then it combs the research status of “Gou Diao” and summarizes it from six aspects: the sound,form and meaning,inscription interpretation,the quantity of a set,function and use,source and typology research.The second chapter is the study of “Gou Diao” classification and stages.First of all,according to the material,the types of bronze “Gou Diao”,celadon “Gou Diao”and hard ceramic “Gou Diao” are analyzed respectively according to the system and handle system.Then according to the law of the change of the shape of “Gou Diao”,it can be divided into five periods,and then infer the age of “Gou Diao” of the same style according to the age of the standard “Gou Diao”.The first stage is from the late Western Zhou Dynasty to the early Spring and Autumn period,the second stage is the middle and late Spring and Autumn period,the third stage is the early warring States period,the fourth stage is the middle and late warring States period,and the fifth stage is the middle stage of the Western Han Dynasty.The third chapter is the discussion of some issues.First of all,it discusses the material,shape,pattern,unearthed place,time,function and use,method of use,the quantity of a set,common artifacts and so on.Secondly,it points out and corrects the excavation reports or some scholars’ misnamed musical instruments by comparing the differences between “Gou Diao” and “Nao” “Zheng” “Duo”.Finally,the paper discusses the nature of “Gou Diao” unearthed in Shandong and “Gou Diao” unearthed in the tomb of the King of Nanyue,which are not in the Wu-Yue area,and thinks that both of them are influenced by the Wu-Yue culture,but in some aspects,they have the characteristics of the region.The conclusion part summarizes this article.The research on the bronze ware of Wu and Yue is mature,but it still attaches importance to the study of ritual instruments and neglects the study of musical instruments.As a characteristic musical instrument of Wu and Yue,“Gou Diao” has always been neglected.“Gou Diao” is the carrier of Wu-Yue culture,it didn’t disappear with the demise of Wu and Yue,but continued to play an important role,carrying a lot of historical and cultural information,which worth paying attention to.Only after answering the various problems of the “Gou Diao” itself,can we carry out in-depth follow-up research,this paper is to pave the way for future related research.
