| China is currently entering and will be in an aging society for a long time, and in this context, various studies targeting the elderly coincide.Under the current situation that the public generally pay more attention to physical health, mental health is often easily ignored by people. Moreover,in terms of mental health of the elderly population, compared with the urban elderly population, the mental health status of the rural elderly population is even less appreciated,so this paper focuses on the mental health of the rural elderly in China.Due to various historical reasons and the problems left over from development, the degree and intensity of social security of rural elderly are not as good as those of urban elderly. In terms of endowment insurance, rural elderly enjoy urban and rural residential insurance;in terms of medical insurance, rural elderly enjoy the New Rural Cooperative Medical System. In addition to the basic social insurance guarantee, the proportion of urban elderly who bought commercial endowment insurance and medical insurance was also higher than that of rural elderly,so this paper discusses the impact of social insurance on their mental health from the perspective of rural elderly. In this paper, based on the data of the elderly aged 60 years and above in rural China in the 2018 Chinese Elderly Health Impact Factor Follow-up Survey(CLHLS),the mental health status was measured by the Flow Called Self-Rating Depression Scale(CES-D),first,the related factors affecting the mental health of the elderly were analyzed by ordinal logistic regression, and then the total sample was grouped according to different individual characteristics to study the effect of social insurance on the mental health of the elderly in rural China under different individual characteristics, then the effectiveness of the regression model was demonstrated using the Walder test, and finally a mediating effect model was constructed to investigate the mechanism of the effect of urban and rural residential insurance on mental health.According to the analysis of empirical research, the following conclusions are drawn: overall, the urban and rural residential insurance policy effectively reduces the depression index of rural elderly and effectively improves the mental health level of rural elderly;the NCMS policy does not play a significant role.Specifically, the extent to which social insurance affects their mental health varies for rural older adults with different individual characteristics.Self-reported health status and annual household income play a partial mediating effect between social insurance and mental health. In terms of policy suggestions, this paper puts forward relevant reference suggestions from four aspects:improving the insurance coverage rate of the elderly in rural areas, improving the relevant policies of the New Rural Cooperative Medical System, improving the mental health of the elderly in rural areas at multiple levels and strengthening health promotion policies. |
