| As the imperial clan of the former Ming Dynasty,Badashanren,well read and devoted to painting art,was a man of integrity with the spirit of traditional scholar officials.In his youth,he experienced tremendous times changes and struggled to adapt himself in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties,seeking to settle down physically and psychologically.During the time,he developed a symbolic way to express himself with brushes and ink.His emotional works focused on exaggeration and distortion,which distinguished themselves from the traditional paintings in layout and styles.From his resume of artistic exploration,the lines in his works are simple,concise and creative in different periods,combining the three realms of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism.He dedicated all his emotion and artistic creativity to his works of art,bringing us unique and changeable styles.Badashanren had evolved from the passive acceptance of the objective world to the conscious transmutation of the subjective spirit,thus achieving the goals of free expression of art and realizing self-fulfilment through his paintings.Based on the existing historical data and comprehensive literature as well as the analysis of representative paintings,this paper is to analyze the value orientation of Badashanren’s paintings,trace the source of the spirit style in Wei and Jin Dynasties,discuss about the advantages and disadvantages of working in sorrow and indignation as well as the influence of pessimistic aesthetics.As far as the bloodline is concerned,this paper discusses the humanistic complex of traditional Chinese artists,such as Lao Zhuang Taoism and metaphysical theory of Wei,Jin and Six Dynasties.This paper also traces the source of value orientation in Badashan people’s works and demonstrates how he created a connection between Wei Jin temperament and pure artistic conception.In conclusion,the exclusive subject consciousness was triggered due to the failure to access the reality while the opposition between existence and nonexistence contributed to the emotional ways to express with brushes and ink,which echoes the persistence and resistance of the sergeant spirit in the social unrest in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties.The second half of the chapter tries to reveal the strange schema creativity brought by Badashanren,its lasting influence,and thus explore the value orientation in Badashanren’s paintings. |
