Vocabulary is the foundation of language learning,and an adequate vocabulary is the key to improve students’comprehensive English ability.In the teaching practice of Senior Three,it’s very common that students showed weak interest in vocabulary review,while the teachers usually use the traditional method to review vocabulary and students lack of guidance for English vocabulary review strategies,which lead to low review efficiency.Mind mapping is a visual and graphical tool.It presents information by visual means such as different colors,images,signs,symbols and lines,which can promote students’interest and deepen their understanding of vocabulary.Therefore,this study applies mind mapping to Senior Three English vocabulary review with the purpose to study the following three questions:Question One:What effects does the application of mind mapping have on Senior Three students’interest in vocabulary review?Question Two:What effects does the application of mind mapping have on Senior Three students’vocabulary review strategies?Question Three:What effects does the application of mind mapping have on Senior Three students’efficiency of vocabulary review?To answer the above research questions,a teaching experiment was carried out from August 1st,2021 to November 30th,2021 in a local senior high school.The research subjects are 91 Senior Three students from two parallel classes.One of them is randomly set as the Control Class(CC);while the other is treated as the Experimental Class(EC).The teacher applies mind mapping to vocabulary review teaching in the EC and traditional English vocabulary review method is used in the CC.The data were collected by means of questionnaires,vocabulary tests and interview and were analyzed by the software of SPSS 23.0 after the experiment.The research results are as follows:First and foremost,the application of mind mapping to English vocabulary review in Senior Three helps to stimulate students’interest and can improve students’review efficiency of vocabulary.Moreover,students are able to focus on the structure of words and figure out the connections among the words,using some strategies for vocabulary review with the help of mind mapping.As a result,the efficiency of vocabulary review has been greatly improved.To sum up,the application of mind mapping to English vocabulary review in Senior Three is an innovation of vocabulary review teaching method and plays an important role in students’vocabulary review.However,the effects of mind mapping review method may vary according to the English level of the students.Therefore,in practice,teachers should pay attention to the differences in students’English proficiency and give more guidance to the underachievers.
