| Organizational identity has been a hot topic of research in recent years.The SinoPolish University Consortium was jointly established by some Chinese universities and some Polish universities in response to the Belt and Road Initiative.There is little research on the organizational identity construction of such transnational university organizations.This thesis intends to study the organizational identity of SPUC on the basis of extended Discourse-Historical Approach.Based on the purpose of this study,three research questions are proposed:(1)What discourse strategies are adopted in the corpus to promote and introduce the Sino-Polish University Consortium?(2)What organizational identities of the Sino-Polish University Consortium are constructed by those discourse strategies?(3)What are the reasons for the construction of the above organizational identities of the Sino-Polish University Consortium?In this research,the author collected the corpus of the Sino-Polish University Consortium,including the white paper,prospectus and charter of the Sino-Polish University Consortium(SPUC)and some news from its official website.What’s more,there is some news collected from Polish members univerisities’ website.With the help of Nvivo11 and Ant Conc 3.5.8.,this research adopts the three-dimensional framework of discourse analysis based on the Discourse-Historical Approach,that is,according to the topic of discourse content at the macro level,specific discourse strategies at the meso level,and specific language representation forms at the micro level.This study not only focuses on the analysis of discourse meaning from the perspective of pure text of discourse strategy,but also focuses on the analysis of multimodal discourse meaning based on the characteristics of the genre of news text.Therefore,in this study,the author puts forward a new discourse strategy,namely non-verbal strategy.Research findings:Firstly,there are 1,833 units discourse strategies and non-verbal strategies in relevant materials.Among them,the largest proportion is the strategy of predication,accounting for 49.75%(912 units).The strategy of nomination takes up 25.26%(463units).The proportion of the perspectivation strategy is 6.82%(125 units).The strategy of intensification and the strategy of argumentation respectively account for 5.90%(108units)and 3.87%(71 units).And the non-verbal strategy occupies 8.40%(154 units).Secondly,those strategies mentioned above constructs the following seven organizational identities.A confident,authoritative educator who values talent cultivation;an academic researcher who values academic exchanges and scientific and technological innovation;a communicator of cultural and linguistic exchanges between China and Poland;an active social actor;an intermediary to promote the development of China-Poland friendship;a promise maker with clear plans;and a promoter to develop the internationalization of higher education.The organizational identity of educator is constructed by four types of discourse strategies,namely,referential strategies,predicational strategies,intensifying strategies and argumentative strategies,as well as non-verbal strategies.The organizational identity of academic researcher is constructed by predicational strategies,argumentative strategies,perspectivation strategies and non-verbal strategies.The communicator’s organizational identity is constructed by perspectivation strategies and non-verbal strategies.The organizational identity of social actor is constructed by predicational strategies and intensifying strategies.The organizational identity of intermediary is constructed by referential strategies.The organizational identity of promise maker is constructed by predicational strategies.The organizational identity of promoter is constructed by perspectivation strategies and argumentative strategies.Thirdly,the reasons for the organizational identity construction of the the SinoPolish University Consortium mainly come from three aspects.First of all,the the SinoPolish University Consortium was established against the background of the “Belt and Road” Initiative(BRI).The Chinese government encourages exchanges and cooperation with neighboring countries.This provides opportunities for the establishment of Sino-Polish University Consortium under the Belt and Road Initiative and creates favorable conditions for the development of China-Poland friendship.Therefore,the organizational identity of an intermediary to promote the development of China-Poland friendship is constructed.The SPUC conducts a series of daily activities aimed at actively building the “Belt and Road” regional alliance educational community,thus the organizational identity of a promise maker with clear plans is constructed.Second,both Chinese and Polish universities need to seek development for universities in other countries.The Sino-Polish University Consortium cultivates international talents,holds international academic exchange conferences,and carries out cultural and language exchange activities between China and other countries.Therefore,there are four organizational identities are constructed,including a confident,authoritative educator who values talent cultivation;an academic researcher who values academic exchanges and scientific and technological innovation;an active social actor;and a promoter to develop the internationalization of higher education.Finally,we should stick to the path of cultural confidence.Chinese culture needs and should go global.The Sino-Polish University Consortium carries out cultural exchanges and visits by virtue of Confucius Institutes and Classrooms to promote mutual learning between Chinese and Polish civilizations and expand exchange space.Thus,the organizational identity of a communicator of cultural and linguistic exchanges between China and Poland is constructed.This study provides some suggestions for domestic institutions of higher learning or enterprises to construct transnational consortium with foreign institutions for international cooperation and exchange. |
