| As far as the current teaching situation is concerned,junior high school English reading materials are single,and the cultivation of thinking quality in teaching is insufficient.In order to improve this phenomenon,from September to the end of November,2021,this research took 43 students from Class 2,Grade 7,a junior high school in A City,Liaoning Province as the objects,and carried out two rounds of action research on the cultivation of thinking quality by reading English newspapers through questionnaire and interview.This research mainly studies two questions: What is the current situation of junior high school students’ thinking quality? How to use English newspapers to reasonably design teaching activities to improve junior high school students’ thinking quality? Through SPSS25.0 data analysis,the pre-test results of thinking quality prove that students’ thinking quality needs to be improved,and the interview results also prove this point.In the research process,the first round of action research aims at cultivating the logicality,creativity and criticism of students’ thinking quality,designing action plans and formulating specific teaching plans,such as speculating content,inducing information and combing structure,etc.After the first round of research,students’ classroom performance and interview results prove that their thinking quality has improved;The goal of the second round of action research is still to improve students’ thinking quality in three aspects.On the basis of the first round of action research,it has been improved,extended the activity time,and added teaching activities such as brainstorming,judging reasoning and distinguishing genres.Through the analysis of relevant data,the thinking quality of participants is generally improved.The results of action research show that the thinking quality level of junior high school students needs to be improved and the difference is obvious;By using English newspapers and setting up teaching activities such as prediction,speculation,guessing words,induction,writing,discussion and debate,the logicality,creativity and criticism of students’ thinking quality can be effectively improved.It is hoped that this study will enlighten English teachers in making rational use of English newspapers and developing students’ thinking quality. |
