A Report On E-C Translation Of Review Of Rock Lobster Sustainability Measures(Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Reception Theory

The author has undertaken the translation project of Review of Rock Lobster Sustainability Measures,which focuses on fishery economy.Its main content is about management measures and fishing allowance of rock lobsters in different regions of New Zealand.The text is logically coherent and the language is formal with lots of aquaculture terms,proper nouns and Māori.This report aims to display proper translation methods for the lexical items in such fishery-related scientific documents through specific case analyses.The analyses are supported from the perspective of Hauss and Iser’s Reception Theory.The quality of translation is ensured by using parallel texts before translation,specialized fishery terminology dictionaries and literature research methods.The results are that different fishery lexical items require different translation methods.For fishery terms,translation need to be accurate,concise and clear.For proper nouns,the methods of literal translation can be adopted.And transliteration,free translation and transference-and-annotation can be employed for aboriginal language.All the different use of translation methods are aimed at making the translation close to the target readers,i.e.,for easy acceptance,and meeting the horizon of their expectation.This report discusses the methods on the lexical translation of fishery,and shows the reasonability of such translation methods from the perspective of Reception Theory through case analyses.It is hoped that this report offers some help to the translators focusing on fishery documents from English into Chinese.It is also hoped that the translation in this report promotes the development of the translation of fishery documents and the 21 st Century Maritime Silk Road.
