| With the increasing cross-cultural exchanges between China and the outside of the World and the improvement of media communication technology,a large number of excellent English documentaries have entered China, providing Chinese viewers with a new perspective to understand the world and experience Western culture. In order to make Chinese viewers understand English documentaries more easily and accurately, the study of subtitle translation of documentaries is very important.Wild China is the first large scale Chinese wildlife and natural landscape television documentary co-produced by BBC and CCTV,with BBC writing the script and CCTV providing the revisions.Although scholars in China have applied different theories to the Chinese translation of the Wild China documentary in recent years,we found that theories regarding aesthetic linguistics has not yet been applied to the Chinese translation of the Wild China documentary.Current research on documentaries and theories regarding aesthetic linguistics at home and abroad in recent years, first, although many scholars have made certain studies on the aesthetic choices of language in recent years, the scope of their studies is relatively small, mostly focusing on literature, poetry and other fields, and few scholars have studied the aesthetic choices of language in translation of documentaries;second,in the translation criticism and appreciation of Chinese translations of documentaries, when it comes to the translation criticism and appreciation of documentary films, the guiding theories chosen are quite similar. Most starts from the Skopos theory and text type theory, and few research on Chinese translation of documentaries from the perspective of theories regarding aesthetic linguistics is found. Therefore, translation criticism of the Chinese translation of the documentary Wild China with the theory of aesthetic linguistics has a certain significance in terms of theoretical guidance for the development of nature documentaries in China.Guided by theories regarding aesthetic linguistics, this paper compared and analyzed the linguistic aesthetic choices of the two Chinese versions of the Wild China documentary narration in five dimensions: aesthetic choices of linguistic variants, aesthetic choices of communicative types, aesthetic choices of words, aesthetic choices of sentences, and aesthetic choices of discourse, and makes value judgments on this basis, covering the following aspects:(1)An overview of theories regarding aesthetic linguistics and the development of Wild China documentaries and its related researches;(2)Under the guidance of theories regarding aesthetic linguistics,a comparative analysis of the linguistic aesthetics of the Chinese translation of the Wild China documentary narration is conducted through the two Chinese versions of the official CCTV and YYe TS,and specific examples of the comparison and relevant data are listed;(3)Based on the results of the comparative analysis, the translation strategies in the translation process are criticized and appreciated.Based on these comparative results, this thesis further explores the translation strategies of documentaries. This study concludes that translators should pay attention to the expression habits of the target language and the reading expectations of the target readers, adopt the translation strategy of naturalization to translate documentary texts, and use the translation methods of addition, subtraction, annotation and discourse reconstruction to achieve effective translation for the purpose of successful communication and foreign promotion. |
