| Snake culture has a long history in China.As one of the beliefs of the ancient ancestors,it carries multiple cultural meanings and is an important part of the animal worship of the ancestors that cannot be ignored.From totem worship,reproduction worship,to imperial symbols,the cultural connotation of snake images has become richer and richer,coupled with the mutual influence and exchange among various ethnic cultures,as well as the transformation of aesthetic concepts and consciousness in different periods and regions of the nation,resulting in a rich multi-ethnic snake culture worship and diverse folklore,which have influenced all aspects of Chinese people’s lives.Through the analysis and comparison of excavated cultural relics and historical documents,coupled with the collation and study of folk culture,this paper sorts out the symbols and symbolic meanings of snake culture in different periods of ancient China.The origins of the primitive snake culture are traced to explore the reasons why the snake became a totem cult.Through the figure of Fuxi Nuwa,we explore the fertility cult behind the snake culture,and finally return to the snake culture in folk art,analyzing the current state of communication and artistic expression of snake culture in folk.The design practice takes the cultural connotation of the snake image as the background,and takes the artistic expression of the snake image in the design fields of clothing,products and visuals as the reference,combines the traditional Chinese paper-cutting culture with the snake image,and designs the paper-cutting snake theme poster series,the five poisonous snake theme poster and the white snake theme poster,and extends other related poster series,creative derivatives and digital media dynamic video.By combining traditional cultural connotations with folk art expressions and contemporary design techniques,we break the people’s solidified thinking about snake images,create unique,interesting and creative snake image designs,and make some contribution to the dissemination of traditional Chinese snake culture. |
