With the global pandemic, economic downturn, and local, regional wars, more and more people are suffering from mental sub-health,and treating mental health problems has drawn more and more attention. The study of the Chinese translation of research results in the field of clinical psychological therapy could encourage more translators to make attempts in this field, further enrich the academic research, and promote the exchange and sharing of achievements in the field of psychological therapy between China and the West. The translator chooses the first chapter of The Practitioner’s Guide to the Science of Psychotherapy by Richard Hill and Matthew Dahlitz as the translation practice material. This book analyzes and deconstructs the brain, memory, body, and other aspects and analyzes the relationship between these factors and mental health, which has a high degree of academic significance and guiding clinical value. This translation report aims to study the translation methods of dashes.According to the eleven semantic relations represented by the logical connectors listed by Huang Guowen, the translator divides the dashes in the translation practice material into four types:explanation, result, summation, and addition, and discusses how to restore the semantic relations represented by dashes in the original text through translation. The translator makes statistics on the occurrence of the dashes of each type in the source text and lists relevant translation examples. The translation method of dash in each instance is described in detail based on the context of the source text.Based on the case analysis, this report summarizes three translation methods of dashes:keep dashes, delete dashes and make modification. It is found that dashes representing"explanation","result" and "summation" are usually translated by means of modification, which is manifested by adding logical conjunctions and adjusting word order. In a few cases, the deletion method is used. However, the dashes which represent the semantic relation of"addition" are kept in more cases.Although the numbers of translation examples analysed in this report is limited, the translation methods summarized can provide reference for similar translation practices.
