A Study Of The Subtitle Translaticn In The Chinese Anti-Epidemic Documentary The Frontline

China has experienced various trials and challenges in the past three years since the outbreak of Covid-19 in late 2019."China Speed" and "China Power" have since attracted global attention,from its initial helplessness in the face of the new strain,to its nationwide prevention and control of the epidemic,to the fact that the outbreak is now well under control."The Frontline:China’s Battle Against Covid-19”is a documentary by CGTN about China’s fight against the epidemic from the end of 2019 to June 2020,planned by Xu Xinchen,the chief director of "The Lockdown:One Month In Wuhan"launched by CGTN in the previous six months,and joined several senior reporters from CCTV.Behind the success of the documentary is the efforts of its subtitle translation team.Compared with foreign countries,the domestic subtitle translation of film and television has started late,and most of them focus on movies and TV series,but less on documentaries.Therefore,it is increasingly important to explore the issue of subtitle translation for documentaries.In this study,the author proposes to study the subtitle translation of "The Frontline:China’s Battle Against Covid-19" from the perspective of eco-translatology proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen.Eco-translatology is a relatively new theoretical perspective in China,which takes Darwin’s doctrine of"adaptive selection" as the starting point and re-examines the nature,process and principles of translation activities,providing a new theoretical foundation for translational research.This study adopts the "three-dimensional transformation"analysis method,and combines theory and examples to study the bilingual subtitled text of "The Frontline:China’s Battle Against Covid-19",discusses the translational eco-environment of the documentary,analyzes the adaptive transformation carried out by the translation team in the translation process through example sentences,and finally concludes the holistic adaptation and selection of the translation.The results of this study reveals and verifies the guiding significance of eco-translatology for documentary subtitle translation and that the three-dimensioanl transformation fits well with the subtitle translation.The author also hopes that more studies on documentary subtitle translation will appear in the future.
