| English reading is an important part of English learning for senior high school students and is the focus of high school English teaching.The National English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2020)proposes to improve students’ comprehension of different English discourses and to understand the author’s intention of writing and the cultural knowledge embedded in them.While text interpretation is the way to effective reading,teachers’ interpretation of texts not only helps them to grasp the material more precisely,but also enables them to choose appropriate reading teaching methods and find effective ways to guide students to understand the content of texts.In order to understand the application of text interpretation in high school English reading instruction,this thesis asks the following three questions:1.What is the current situation of text interpretation in senior high school English reading teaching?2.How effective is text interpretation applied to senior high school English reading teaching?3.How can text interpretation be better applied in senior high school English reading teaching?In order to answer the research questions,the researcher mainly adopted questionnaires and interviews to investigate the actual application of text interpretation in high school English classrooms,then conducted data collection,and finally conducted reliability and validity tests and corresponding data analysis through SPSS 26.0.Based on the analysis of the data,the researcher found the following points: 1.Most of the teachers could not apply their mastery of text interpretation to teaching English reading.2.The teacher questionnaires and teacher interviews showed that teachers were still inadequate in interpreting text structure and text genre.3.The student questionnaires and student interviews showed that most students were not very satisfied with their ability to interpret the text,especially with their ability to interpret the structure of the text,the genre of the text and the intention of the writing.Based on the above findings,the following suggestions are made about how teachers can better apply text interpretation to high school English reading instruction: Firstly,English teachers should interpret the reading text from multiple perspectives,respectively,from several aspects such as text theme,text language and writing intention;Secondly,English teachers should integrate reading texts scientifically and rationally to make them more attractive and stimulate students’ interest in reading English.Finally,English teachers should carefully study the new curriculum standards and change their teaching concepts to interpret reading texts with students as the center.It is hoped that this thesis can provide some informative suggestions for future research in text interpretation. |
