A Study On The Composing Techniques Of John Adams’s Short Ride In A Fast Machine

John Coolidge Adams(1947.2.15-)is a contemporary American composer and one of the representatives of minimalist music.His works are novel in material selection and unique in perspective.They are mainly based on the minimalist style and integrate other music styles and composition techniques to depict specific music images.This paper will make a systematic analysis and research on the creative techniques,orchestration texture,music structure and other aspects used in John Adams’ s band "Short Ride in a Fast Machine",and provide a little experience and information for my or others’ creation or learning.After reading relevant literature,analyzing and studying music scores,and making comprehensive comparison,the following conclusion is made:John Adams,as a minimalist composer,retains clear minimalist music style in his works,and creatively combines some styles of romantic music with minimalist music.Since there are few references on the research direction of composition techniques in this work,I hope to analyze and study it,comprehensively summarize the creation techniques of Adams’ s Short Journey in a Fast Machine and improve my creation level.
