| Foreign language teaching not only has the task of training foreign language talents needed by the country and learning foreign advanced technology but also shoulders the important mission of introducing Chinese culture to the world.As China’s international influences continues to expand,teaching practice and theoretical discussions on the integration of Chinese culture into English language teaching are receiving increasing attention.The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2020)sets out the core qualities of the subject,emphasizing the development of students’ cultural awareness and requiring students to have strong cultural confidence,a certain level of cross-cultural awareness and the ability to disseminate Chinese culture.It is well agreed that reading is the main way of language and culture input in English teaching,so more attention should be paid to cultivating students’ cultural awareness in the process of reading teaching.Only by deeply understanding the current situation of cultivating students’ Chinese cultural awareness in Chinese senior high school English reading teaching and by deeply analyzing the practical problems of the integration of Chinese culture into English language teaching can more effective strategies and methods be proposed,so it is necessary to conduct an in-depth investigation on this.Through questionnaires,interviews and classroom observations,this paper investigates the current situation of integrating Chinese culture into senior high school English reading teaching at Tongliao No.5 senior high school.This paper mainly answers the following research questions:(1)How do teachers perceive the integration of Chinese culture into senior high school English reading teaching?(2)What are the problems and reasons for the integration of Chinese culture into senior high school English reading teaching in practice?(3)How to solve the problems existing in the integration of Chinese culture into senior high school English reading teaching?The results of the experiment show that,firstly,teachers are more fully aware of teaching Chinese culture in English reading teaching.Secondly,there are many problems with teaching Chinese culture in English reading teaching: Teachers are not well culturally equipped;The content of Chinese culture teaching is unbalanced;The method of teaching Chinese culture in English reading teaching is very simple;There is no corresponding evaluation system after Chinese culture teaching;Teachers’ understanding of students’ cognitive level differences is insufficient,while the influencing factors mainly include teachers’ high pressure from teaching and research,students’ different cognitive levels and poorly independent learning ability,limited training and teaching activities and inadequate teaching resources.Based on the findings of the study,the author makes targeted recommendations from teachers,students and schools.Finally,the author analyses the shortcomings of this study and makes an outlook for future research. |
