With the rapid development of China’s economy,Chinese culture has increasingly attracted worldwide attention. The foreign translation of historical works from various regions in China helps foreign scholars and history lovers to have a deeper understanding of Chinese culture, promote economic development and cultural exchanges. The translator selected Professor Li Peng et al.’s work Study on the History of Immigrants from Heilongjiang Province in the Late Qing Dynasty and the Early Republic of China,(Part VIII)—— Research on Jewish Immigration to China in Modern and Contemporary History as the source text for translation practice(including15,065 Chinese characters). This chapter systematically introduces the history of Jews’ coming to China by historical stages, sources and regions, mobility and interaction, historical connection between the past and the present, from macro to micro aspects, etc.,and gives a detailed introduction to the historical materials of Jews’ coming to China via substantial content and clear logic. This translation practice aims to offer more details of the history of Jewish people coming to China, analyze text types and historical literature translation characteristics, summarize terminology, and combine ecological translation theory with case analysis to summarize the translation techniques used in historical literature translation. The translator chooses the ecological translation theory proposed by Professor Hu Gengshen as the guidance of translation practice, which mainly emphasizes that translators should convert from the three dimensions of language, culture and communication in order to achieve the ecological balance of translation. Therefore, the translator analyzes and summarizes translation practice in detail from three aspects:language dimension, cultural dimension and communicative dimension. At the level of language dimension, the translator uses word-changing translation, voice conversion, sentence recombination and other methods to make the translation of words and sentences more authentic and closer to the expression of the original language author. In terms of cultural dimension,in order to make the translation of historical and culture-loaded words more accurate, the translator analyzes the cultural background of words from the aspects of cultural image, cultural default, cultural borrowing, etc. At the communicative level, the translator uses free translation, word complement translation, word order adjustment and other ways to improve the translation of words, sentences and texts,so that the translation is not only faithful to the author’s expression, but also conducive to readers’ reading. In translation practice, the translator adopts the case study method to apply the three-dimensional translation method of ecological translation theory to the English translation of historical documents,so as to build the connection among the translator, the reader and the text, and realize the coordination and unity of the source text and the target text. This translation practice explores the application value and guiding significance of ecological translation theory in Jewish immigration literature, provides a useful reference for the English translation practice of Jewish immigration literature, and attracts Jewish investment in China and promotes local economic development while promoting cultural communication and exchange.
