In recent years, the concept of self forgiveness has been increasingly mentioned, which refers to individuals choosing to let go of resentment and choose to comfort, understand, and support themselves when they discover their mistakes.Mandala painting therapy is derived from Jung’s analytical theory of mind.It uses the method of projection to penetrate into the individual’s unconscious. While stimulating the protection, differentiation, cohesion, integration, guidance and other powers of the individual’s own nature,it is also interesting, simple and convenient, and popular with the public. At present, scholars at home and abroad have tried to analyze the differences of individual self forgiveness level in demography variables, but the conclusions drawn by different students are far from each other. At the same time, the intervention research on self forgiveness has shortcomings of single intervention form and lack of enthusiasm of the subjects.A study has found that if an individual is unable to achieve self forgiveness,it can significantly affect their mental health. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the status quo of college students’ self forgiveness level and differences in demography variables. At the same time, according to previous theoretical research,we designed a set of self forgiveness themed Mandala painting group counseling, give full play to the advantages of Mandala painting therapy to stimulate individual self motivation and group counseling to stimulate individual initiative, conduct intervention research on college students, and analyze some college students’ Mandala works,Summarize the possible effective factors of group assistance, providing reference for future related research.Study 1 used a questionnaire survey method to recruit 519 participants from college students and fill out the "College Student Self Forgiveness Questionnaire".Afterwards, data analysis was conducted to determine the current level of self forgiveness among college students.Study 2 used a pre, post, and follow-up test design to recruit 24 college students. The participants were divided into an intervention group and a control group, and the "College Student Self Forgiveness Questionnaire" was filled out as a pre test.Within the next two months, the intervention group participants will complete an 8-week group tutoring session on mandala painting. After 8 weeks of intervention and a month of follow-up observation, the total score of self forgiveness and the changes in various factors were compared among different groups at different periods. This study combines quantitative research with process evaluation, and analyzes and discusses the experimental data results together with Mandala painting works. The research results are as follows:The overall level of self forgiveness among college students is above average, and there are significant differences in total scores and some dimensions between genders. The overall score of female college students’ self forgiveness level and the dimensions of positive cognition and positive behavior are significantly higher than those of male college students. There was no significant difference in the total score and dimensions of self forgiveness in terms of grade and religious beliefs. After group assisted intervention, the self forgiveness level of the intervention group was significantly improved, and there was no significant difference between the follow-up and pre test scores.Mandala painting group counseling can significantly improve the negative emotions of the intervention group, but the effect on improving negative behavior, positive cognition, and positive behavior is not significant. The self forgiveness level of the intervention group in the post test was significantly higher than that of the control group, and there was no significant difference in the follow-up scores between the intervention group and the control group.
