A Report On The Translation Of Financial And Economic News Of The Economist Under The Guidance Of Skopos Theory

In the 21st century,with the rapid progress of information technology and communication media,people of all countries have various channels to obtain domestic and foreign economic information.In particular,reading financial news is one of the efficient and convenient ways.However,due to language and cultural differences,it is difficult for the Chinese public to get financial information accurately and efficiently.Therefore,it is important and meaningful to study the Chinese translation of English financial news and provide readers with high-quality translations.The Economist is one of the world’s best-known English-language magazines,which focuses on the analysis of the current economic situation and the outlook on future economic trends,providing quality material for the Chinese public to understand the international situation.To this end,this report selects 10 articles covering real estate,fintech and other hot topics from the financial section of The Economist from April 2022 to June 2022 and takes the skopos theory proposed by Vermeer as the guide.Guided by the skopos theory,this report analyzes three aspects based on its skopos rule,fidelity rule,and coherence rule.At the lexical level,the author understands the meanings of technical terms,abbreviations,and other words,translating the texts by adding annotations and other methods,so that readers can better access financial information.At the syntactic level,the author analyzes the structure and grammar of the sentences and adopts translation techniques such as amplification,omission,and conversion to ensure faithfulness to the original text.At the textual level,the logical structure and the way of connection are emphasized to achieve coherence in the translated text.With the analysis of the difficulties and problems encountered in the translation process,this report summarizes the translation methods that can be followed and the translation techniques used in the translation process,to provide accurate translations for Chinese readers and promote the efficient delivery of information.
