In the creation of Chinese painting in the 1990 s,"tension" has become a familiar word, and there have been many exhibitions named after "tension".For example, the two "tension experiment" exhibitions held in the China Art Museum represented the high level of expressive ink painting creation at that time. The keynote of the exhibition is to emphasize expression, visual tension, emotional expression and exhibition effect, which brings possibilities for the development and change of ink painting. As a female artist who explored expressive ink painting earlier,Zhou Sicong’s figure painting is quite representative in the process of traditional Chinese painting innovation in the 20 th century. The picture has great "visual tension" and strong impact. It has made a certain breakthrough in the tradition in terms of pen and ink processing, character modeling, composition and so on.She innovated on the basis of Chinese traditional realistic ink and wash. While retaining the traditional ink and wash and rice paper materials, she selectively absorbed and drew lessons from the new visual symbols and picture structure in western modern art, which has unique personal characteristics and innovative significance. This paper mainly consists of three parts: first, the formal expression and artistic effect of "visual tension" in creation, and discusses the interactive relationship between the creator’s tension transmission and the viewer’s acceptance under the era background of Exhibition Hall art;Secondly,it makes a case analysis of Zhou Sicong, focusing on the presentation characteristics of "visual tension" in Zhou Sicong’s expressive ink painting period. This paper analyzes the presentation of tension in Zhou Sicong’s works from many aspects, that is,the multiple sense of space of visual elements, the geometric expression of image modeling and the expressive tension of ink and wash materials;Third, personal creative practice and perception. This paper mainly expounds the harvest and perception I get from Zhou Sicong’s expressive ink works; How to apply my harvest and perception to my creative practice; Finally,a conclusion is drawn.
