As a traditional city protector,the City God’s image of the underworld official who protects the environment and the people,removes disasters and eliminates troubles is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people,attracting the worship of many believers,and also triggering heated discussions among scholars on the City God.Under the influence of cultural anthropology’s theory of community research,this paper selects the belief of the City God in Xiamen as a case study.Xiamen has an important role as a link and is a window for foreign exchanges.Therefore,Xiamen City God belief also has a similar function,which is reflected in the help of cross-strait unification and foreign exchanges.Whether in ancient times or in modern times,the belief in Xiamen City God reflects a different characteristic.Different from the traditional inland city God,the belief in Xiamen City God is the product of the collision of land civilization and marine civilization.The official will of the Qing feudal dynasty was reflected in the border areas;on the other hand,it showed a different development model in its development process.In the overall review,how does the particularity shown by the case study reside in the belief of the city god or the universality of folk belief? What are the characteristics of city god belief under social changes?
