Chinatown in Indonesian Kota Semarang is one of the typical Chinese places in the world.It is not an exaggeration to describe the number of temples as one temple in three steps and one temple in four steps,as there are temples of all sizes located in the crisscrossed,Chinese-filled alleys.These temples serve as a unit of Chinese communication that binds the Chinese together.And unlike other Chinatowns,the Chinese in Kota Semarang,in addition to traditional Chinese folk beliefs.They also worship Zheng He and call him "Mr.Sanbao".Every year on the 29 th and 30 th day of the 6th month of the lunar calendar,the Kota Semarang Chinese hold a grand "Leave the Palace" ceremony to commemorate Zheng He.Their worship of Zheng He has influenced the island of Java,and even the entire Indonesian community and the Chinese community in Southeast Asia.The study of Mr.Sanbao’s "Leave the Palace" ritual in Indonesian Kota Semarang Chinatown is based on fieldwork,participant observation,questionnaire,interview and documentary analysis.The study of Indonesian Kota Semarang Chinatown temples,Chinese religious beliefs,and Mr.Sanbao’s "Leave the Palace" rituals is based on field research using participant observation,questionnaires,interviews,and documentary analysis.It also describes the difficult history of the development of the Indonesian Kota Semarang Chinese,their memories of their homeland,Kota Semarang Chinese religious culture,and Mr.Sanbao’s "Leave the Palace" ceremony.On the other hand,it explores the situation and types of Chinatown temples in Kota Semarang,the installation of gods and goddesses in temples,the organization of temples and traditional religious practices,and focuses on the origin of Mr.Sanbao’s "Leave the Palace" ceremony,the process of its performance,and the cultural connotations and functions of the ceremony.It focuses on the origin of Mr.Sanbao’s "Leave the Palace" ritual,the process of its performance,and the cultural connotations and functions arising from it.It also uses functionalist theory,historical memory theory,and marginalized communities theory to frame the narrative and further explore the role and impact of traditional religious beliefs in the Chinese community of Indonesian Kota Semarang.
