The research meets the current requirements of Chinese talents cultivation and domestic education reform.Currently,there are lots of studies about cultivation of critical thinking in reading at home and aboard.However,there are few studies centering on cultivation of critical thinking in continuation writing.What’s more,according to the author’s observation in teaching,it’s found that teachers pay much more attention to words and sentences patterns than to cultivation and improvement of thinking quality.Therefore,the research focuses on designing activities of continuation writing oriented to cultivation of critical thinking and its teaching practice.The purposes of the research are as follows.Firstly,the research is to figure out the present situation and problems of high school students’ critical thinking.Secondly,the research is to figure out the present situation and problems of continuation writing.Thirdly,the research is to explore and analyze cases of learning activities of continuation writing oriented to cultivation of critical thinking.Fourthly,the research is to figure out how to improve the activity design of continuation writing.All in all,it is hoped that the research will contribute to the related research area and offer some advice for continuation writing.The research is going to explore the following questions : 1.How to design learning activities oriented to cultivation of critical thinking in continuation writing? 2.What aspects of critical thinking are improved via continuation writing? The study will firstly have a good knowledge of the general picture of students’ employing critical thinking in continuation writing in a high school by conducting surveys and interviews.What’s more,a series of activities of continuation writing will be designed according to the teaching objectives of critical thinking skills.Next,the study will list three cases to illustrate strategies of cultivating critical thinking through the writing.Also,the strategies will be put into practice.Thus,the study will put forward some suggestions on cultivating critical thinking in continuation writing via mind map.Activities are designed and carried out,including “finding out key events and analyzing original texts”,“sorting out plots and analyzing feelings and emotions”,“identifying major conflicts and inferring the best solutions”,“training different micro-skills respectively and building up personal bank of language material”,“self-evaluation,peer reviewing,and group reviewing”,“writing a second draft,filing essays and reflecting ”.According to the result of tests after each teaching practice in this study,it is found that the subjects improve their critical thinking skills and critical thinking sense of awareness.Finally,the author make the reflection on the limitation of this study and look forward to the future study in which the author will continue focusing on this topic.
