| The 2020 English Curriculum Standard for Senior High School suggests that English vocabulary teaching should be combined with a topic and be carried out in specific context.In September,2022,new English textbooks for senior high school students are released in Shanghai,which provides chances for educators to teach English vocabulary in specific topic and context based on the idea of unit teaching.However,in the course of teaching English vocabulary in inland-high-school classes for Xinjiang students with new textbooks,problems can be discovered that students there failed to keep newly-learnt vocabulary,understand words or phrases in the context or use them properly with weak foundation and enthusiasm for vocabulary learning.Therefore,this thesis targets at Xinjiang students in inland-high-school classes,attempting to explore the teaching mode of English vocabulary teaching based on theme unit teaching in inland-high-school classes for Xinjiang students and its impact on learners.Based on scheme theory,context theory,zone of proximal development theory and dynamic systems theory,English vocabulary teaching based on theme unit teaching in inland-high-school classes for Xinjiang students was practiced in a high school in Minhang District,Shanghai,with the help of a questionnaire,lesson-based study,a controlled experiment and interviews.This thesis focuses on three research questions:the current situation and learning difficulty of Xinjiang students in inland-high-school classes,the teaching strategies and mode of English vocabulary teaching based on theme unit teaching in inland-high-school classes for Xinjiang students and its impact on learners’ vocabulary learning.Through teaching practice,the thesis innovated the teaching mode of English vocabulary teaching based on theme unit teaching in inland-high-school classes for Xinjiang students.According to results of the controlled experiment,there was a significant difference in the results of unit tests between the experimental class and the controlled class(P<0.05),which demonstrates a positive impact of the teaching mode on the overall development of students’ vocabulary learning ability,with a greater impact on high-level students’.This teaching mode can also promote students’ mastery of vocabulary knowledge,vocabulary expansion,vocabulary use and vocabulary learning strategy acquisition,providing a reference for unit teaching and vocabulary teaching in inland-high-school classes after the release of new curriculum standards and English textbooks in Shanghai. |
