A Study On The Reproduction Of The Images In Li Qingzhao’s Ci From The Perspective Of Reception Aesthetics

As the representative of the Graceful and Restrained School,Li Qingzhao’s Ci which is unique,independent and known as Yi’an style in the literary world has made outstanding contributions to the development of Song Ci and Chinese literature.In order to further introduce Li’s Ci to the world and increase the appreciation of Chinese literary heritages,it is essential to better translate Chinese Ci into foreign languages to facilitate the cultural communication between China and the foreign countries.The translation view of Reception Aesthetics emphasizes the openness of the text and the non-uniqueness of translation,and emphasizes the subjectivity of the translator in the translation process and the reference position of the target language readers.It is considered that the responses of the target language readers should be taken into account in the translation.So it is quite appropriate to be applied into the translation of literary texts like Li Qingzhao’s Ci.At the same time,poets rely on images to represent their complex emotions and thoughts.Li Qingzhao uses vivid images to express her inner world and profound emotions.For the readers with Western cultural background,if they want to really understand and appreciate Chinese classical poetry,they must be able to understand the images in poetry and the cultural meaning loaded.This thesis chooses the versions of some famous domestic and foreign translators and makes use of the methods of description,comparison and analysis to study the reproduction of images in Li Qingzhao’s Ci from the perspective of Reception Aesthetics.This thesis aims to work on the strategies translators adopt to reproduce the images of Li Qingzhao’s Ci and explores the extent to which the artistic conception is reproduced from the perspective of Reception Aesthetics.Through comparing and analyzing,the author concludes that Domestication strategy which refers to the translation strategy oriented by the target language and culture and explores expressions acceptable to the target language and culture in the translated text is more appropriate to the reproduction of the images in Li Qingzhao’s Ci.It is expected to be conducive to enriching the research on the translation of Li Qingzhao’s Ci and to provide some useful references for researchers to further study the translation of the Graceful and Restrained School’s(Wanyue Pai)Ci in the future.
