| Xiang Embroidery,one of the four famous folk handicrafts,is created by the industrious and intelligent people in Hunan province with the characteristics of splendid Chu culture in the development of human civilization.As one of Chinese intangible cultural heritages,it represents the glorious achievement of fine traditional Chinese craftsmanship and should be carried forward both at home and abroad.However,texts of C-E translation related to Xiang Embroidery are still insufficient,which hinders the external dissemination of the unique folk art.The thesis is based on C-E translation of Memories of Xiang Embroidery(Chapter2),aiming to provide English readers with the information about Xiang embroidery,demonstrate and spread the gorgeous time-honored craftsmanship culture overseas.The translation difficulties lie in the interpretation of culture-loaded words,four-character expressions and special sentences.In terms of the translation methods in dealing with culture-loaded words,the translator adopted literal translation,literal translation with annotation and transliteration with annotation to reproduce cultural information and preserve cultural characteristics.In view of the translation skills in construing fourcharacter expressions,the translator employed the literal translation,liberal translation and omission to make the target text concise and efficient.In regard to the translation techniques in figuring out special sentences,the translator maneuvered literal translation,combination,change of voices and restructuring to elaborate on the original logic and meaning.The translation practice indicates that the translation text has strong local features of Hunan.Therefore,the translator should pay attention to the flexible application of translation techniques to ensure the transmission of profound cultural information and preservation of valuable local characteristics,so as to manifest the captivating charm of Xiang embroidery and promote the external communication of it. |
