| Reading is one of the most important skills to show students comprehensive ability in English.It plays an important role in testing students language comprehension and analytical ability,and it is also an important source for students to obtain comprehensible input materials.Reading has an impact on the students comprehensive ability in English.Therefore,reading has been the top priority of English teaching in senior high school.English Curriculum Standard for General Senior High School revised in 2020,which indicates the cultivation of learning ability helps to improve the subjective initiative of students.It is beneficial to cultivate students good study habits and the efficient development of learning.It also emphasizes that English reading is one of the important ways to improve students English comprehensive quality.However,there are some problems in English reading teaching in senior high school,such as dull reading content,traditional teaching methods,so that students have less interest and enthusiasm in reading.With the introduction of new curriculum standards,it is urgent to innovate teaching methods to improve the teaching quality of English reading in high school.Content-based instruction is known as content teaching method,which is based on subject content.The teaching concept of CBI advocates that language teaching should be carried out based on a certain subject or topic,which is regarded as an effective teaching approach to combine foreign language and content learning.Theme-based approach is the most representative teaching mode of CBI,which takes learning new information as the intermediary.The learners can get new knowledge from getting new information and improve their language level.The teaching process is about student-centered and theme-cored,which advocates the combination of language learning and learning content.So that we can get the goal of improving students language level and application ability,and make the students use language in the real life.This study focuses on the following three issues:1.Can theme-based approach of CBI improve senior high school students English reading achievement effectively ?2.Can theme-based approach of CBI stimulate the interest in learning English of the students?3.Can theme-based approach of CBI promote students cooperative learning ability?There are 100 students from senior two classes of a senior high school in Daqing.I choose Class 22 to be the control class,and Class 21 to be the experimental class.The research time is about one semester.The author adopted theme-based approach of CBI in the experimental class,while the traditional reading teaching method is used in the control class.Questionnaire,test and interview as research tools are used in the test.Two questionnaire surveys were conducted on the experimental class,and the test before and after reading was compared between the two classes.I interviewed the teacher of the two classes and some of the students of experimental class.SPSS 2022 and SPSS 26.0 were used to analyze the data which was collected from the experiment.The results show that with the teaching of theme-based approach of CBI can improve high school students English reading achievement effectively.It also can stimulate the interest in learning English of the students and promote students cooperative learning ability.At the end of the passage,there are some shortcomings in the experiment and the prospect of the future research.The author hopes more and more researchers will make further research theme-based approach of CBI on English teaching to push it have a good future.The students have high interest in learning English and make a good improvement of English application ability. |
