| During the Northern Wei period, ethnic integration reached its peak with the Hanisation reforms, and the music of the Northern Wei also developed rapidly with the fusion of Hu and Han cultures. The Buddhist rulers of the Northern Wei Dynasty excavated the Yungang Grottoes in Pingcheng(present-day Datong,Shanxi),one of the four major grottoes in China, and the images of the musicians were an important part of the carvings. This paper focuses on the visualisation of the images of the musicians in the Yungang Grottoes, taking into account the relevant literature and excavated artefacts. In the information age, people can access information through a variety of channels such as mobile phones and computers.Information visualisation as a method of disseminating data has achieved good results, and more and more traditional cultural information is being disseminated through information visualisation techniques. This method can quickly establish a system of relevant information in the viewer’s mind, which is conducive to the dissemination of and attention to cultural heritage. However,we found that while there are many theoretical studies on the imagery of the Yungang Grottoes, there are relatively few studies on the visualization of the instruments of the Yungang Grottoes. Therefore,it is timely to combine images of the Yungang Grottoes with information visualisation design. In this paper,we build on existing research, collate relevant information, and summarise it.We use information visualisation design tools to extract elements for design and to promote awareness and understanding of the Yungang Grottoes’ musical pose images. At the same time, the author has structured the information on the Yungang Grottoes musical instruments to achieve a multi-dimensional interpretation of the information on the Yungang Grottoes musical instruments.Through a combination of text and graphics, the visualisation transforms the cumbersome text into easy-to-understand diagrams, showing the viewer the cultural heritage and artistic charm represented by the images of the Yungang Grottoes. The research in this paper will be conducted in the following five main sections. In the first section, the background, purpose and significance of the study of the Yungang Grottoes’ musical images are examined and explained, the current state of research at home and abroad is collated and analysed, existing problems in the design of the Yungang Grottoes’ musical images are understood, and research methods and frameworks are sorted out and tabulated to guide the design direction and assist in the writing of the thesis. In the second part,a survey of scholarly research on the Yungang Grottoes’ music and tricks is conducted to analyse the historical background of the creation of tricks, the classification of tricks, the cultural value of tricks and the artistic value of tricks in a multi-dimensional manner. The third part discusses the information visualisation method based on the images of musical instruments in the Yungang Grottoes, and analyses the information visualisation design cases of related caves or traditional musical instruments with the case study method to provide reference for the design practice session. In the fourth part, based on information visualisation design theory, the cave music is classified and analysed to sort out information on the music of the Yungang Grottoes, such as types of music, distribution of music, flow of music, and types of musical instruments,to extract and redraw images of the cave music, and to visualise and design the music of the Yungang Grottoes to promote the dissemination of cave art.The fifth part of the project is to create a dynamic presentation of the images of the musicians and create derivatives to enhance the recognition of the musicians in the Yungang Grottoes, increase the publicity of the musicians in the Grottoes and promote the development of cultural creativity in the Yungang Grottoes. The Yungang Grottoes musical instruments are an important part of the carved wall paintings of the Yungang Grottoes, and there is still much room for improvement in the research and design practice of the Yungang Grottoes musical instruments. The aim of this paper is to create static infographics, dynamic infographics, dynamic presentations and derivative creations of the Yungang Grottoes’ musical instruments,so that they can be viewed and disseminated on mobile devices, drawing attention to the culture of the Yungang Grottoes, popularising the knowledge of the Yungang Grottoes’ musical instruments, and providing new paths and perspectives for the dissemination of the culture of the Yungang Grottoes. |
