| With the rapid development of the global economy,the vocational education principle,guidance thoughts,cultivating model,knowledge system and skill requirements have changed.Developing the students’ awareness of communication and profession and competence of life-long learning are the requirements of the country on vocational education development.Since English is a public basic course,during the period of vocational school,the students should know more basic knowledge of English.And the students should have the application ability of oral English.Basing on the theory of Krashen’s Input Hypothesis,Swain’s Output Hypothesis and the Constructivism Theory,the study aims to explore the current situation of oral English teaching in Qidong Country Vocational School by using the instruments of questionnaire,interview and classroom observation.230 students participated in the questionnaire,5teachers and 5 students were interviewed.The research aims to answer the following questions.1)What is the overall situation of vocational school oral English teaching? What problems exist in oral English teaching in this vocational school?2)What are the main factors affecting oral English teaching in vocational school?The research results indicate: 1)The overall situation of vocational school oral English teaching isn’t very ideal.Some teachers use the Task-based Language Teaching Method in oral English teaching and organize some oral English activities.Only some of the students took an active part in oral English activities and spoke English fluently.Many students dare not open their mouth to speak English due to their poor English foundation and lack of confidence.Some problems exist in oral English teaching.The teachers lack training in oral English teaching.Some teachers can’t understand the students’ psychological characteristics.Some teachers use the traditional teaching method in oral English teaching.Oral English materials suitable for students haven’t been adopted.2)There are many factors affecting oral English teaching in vocational school.The students’ English foundation is poor.So the students aren’t willing to speak English in public and they lack learning motivation.In other aspects,some teachers ignore oral English teaching and the school is short of professional equipment.According to the findings of the survey,the author puts forward the following advice for students,teachers and school authorities.For vocational school students,they should correct their own learning attitude,overcome the obstacles in psychology and develop good learning habits.Furthermore,they should activate their own oral English learning motivations.For English teachers,as a guide of a class,they need to create a harmonious atmosphere and refresh their inherent teaching ideas.What’s more,the teachers should put forward different requirements for different English level students.And teachers had better pay more attention to choosing practical materials properly.For vocational school authorities,they should arrange specialized oral English classes for certain purposes and offer training in oral English teaching for English teachers.What’s more,school leaders are supposed to establish interesting groups of oral English and renew the teaching equipment timely. |
