Judith Butler,a contemporary American philosopher and critical intellectual, has made many achievements in the fields of poststructuralism, feminism, and queer theory,as a rising star of postmodern thought that has swept the world.Butler proposed the theory of "gender manipulation" in the book "Gender Troubles: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity",which opened the internal turn of feminism to post-structuralist feminism, and "gender manipulation" has become Butler’s most iconic theoretical label. In this paper, which focuses on the mainstream of Butler’s theory of "gender manipulation",it pays attention to the idea of "nonviolence" that gradually became apparent in his later thought.Starting from Butler’s position as a critical intellectual, taking the existing translated theoretical texts of his later "War Trilogy" as the main research object, from the perspective of cultural criticism, through close reading of texts and interdisciplinary research methods, the cultural criticism research on Butler’s "nonviolence" thought constructed at the biopolitical level is carried out from the cultural perspective of post-structural feminism, and attempts to outline an internal path of feminist thought in the postmodern context that has emerged since entering the 21 st century to extend to the depth of bioethics. The first part examines the practical context and philosophical foundations of Butler’s "nonviolence" ideological construction.Starting from the three aspects of practical factors, cultural context and theoretical origin, the theoretical resources of the idea of "nonviolence" are analyzed.Butler studied modern European philosophy, and his "subject" idea originated in Hegel’s philosophy, and then through the immersion of French critical thought,he absorbed the essence of the psychoanalytic school of thought, and intervened along the Foucault line in the philosophical issues of feminism and gender studies.Butler attempts to criticize contemporary power subjects and actual violence, and proposes that the ethical basis of the idea of "nonviolence" is the interdependence of human beings and the fragility of life. The second part explores the conceptual connotation and development of Butler’s idea of "nonviolence." From the conceptual definition, the connotation of the proposition of "non-violence" is analyzed; With "Antigone" as a literary sample, the issue of "recognition" that Butler has been concerned about from the field of gender to the field of biopolitics is connected. From dissolving gender to examining the possibilities of livable living,Butler traces the cracks that subvert norms and achieves political intervention from gender issues to life issues. The third part explains the cultural criticism of the idea of "nonviolence" from different dimensions. The first is the media dimension,in which Butler uses the power of mourning and grief as a mediator to critique the "frame" of media and violence, specifically through visually interpreted "implanted" reporting. The second is the political dimension, where Butler critiques the "secular progress" of the current era;In the framework of the war,Butler also paid attention to the seriousness of the problem of sexual politics, using the immigration problem as an example to criticize the liberal subject of modernity. Finally, from the ethical dimension of biopolitical criticism,Butler developed his theory of "mourning" around the concept of "patheticness".Through dialogue with Levinas’ "face" theory, rethink the definition of human beings and renew the life of the "other".Butler focuses on the interdependence between subjects and others, and attempts to construct an intersubjective ethic of global responsibility; And "nonviolence" as an egalitarian method, put forward a non-individualistic view of equality. The fourth part is a value analysis of Butler’s idea of "nonviolence." Clarifying the significance and value of this theory of thought in Butler’s overall thought and in Western feminist theory, pointing to a path of "cultural translation" and subtle interaction with transnational feminism; The idea of "nonviolence" shows Butler’s consistent theoretical characteristics in a dialectical form of defiance. In addition, from the perspective of cultural criticism, this paper critically rethinks the practical significance of the practice of "non-violent" ideological and cultural criticism.Starting from the perspective of cultural criticism, this paper regards this idea of "nonviolence" as a development path different from traditional feminism explored by Butler in the post-female cultural context. Both developed feminism and were not completely framed by feminism, and the two complemented and went hand in hand, giving this idea a broader cultural perspective.Through the study of cultural criticism of Butler’s idea of "nonviolence",we can see the clues of Butler’s early thought continue to think in the field of biopolitics. In the face of a series of serious biopolitical issues such as terrorist attacks, refugee issues, national wars and the new crown epidemic,Butler called for facing up to and cherishing the basic situation of coexistence and coexistence of all human beings, criticizing all violence from thinking to action, and jointly pioneering a responsibility ethic that is truly responsible for all human beings.
