At present, the blended teaching mode has been widely used in colleges and universities in China. This mode combines the advantages of online and offline teaching to the maximum extent. However,in practice, some problems have been found that affect blended online teaching, especially among students majoring in art and physical education(PE).Due to the particularity of the knowledge structure of art and PE majors, their English foundation is relatively weak.Among many factors, anxiety is the most important emotional factor that affects students’ English learning.Nevertheless,in existing research, the relationship between anxiety and the use of self-regulation strategy has not yet formed a unified conclusion, and literature on the relationship between anxiety and self-regulation strategies in a blended teaching model is scarce, and the research is based on this situation.Based on the hypothesis of effective filtering and the theory of self-regulation,this research used a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, mainly by questionnaires and interviews,to examine the English learning anxiety and the use of self-regulation strategies of 160 sophomores majoring in art and PE in a university in Guangxi. Therefore, based on the background of blended teaching mode, this study mainly focuses on the following three questions:(1)What is the current status of English classroom anxiety between Art and PE Majors?(2)How do college students majoring in art and PE alleviate English learning anxiety?(3)What are the differences in the use of self-regulation strategies between art and PE majors in terms of different personality tendencies, majors, and anxiety levels? The main research findings are as follows:(1)English learning anxiety generally exists in the process of English learning among art and PE majors under the blended teaching mode, and over 77% of students are in moderate anxiety.Besides, among the factors most likely to cause students’ anxiety is internet anxiety and test anxiety.(2)Art and PE majors mainly use four self-regulation strategies in college English learning,namely,self-efficacy enhancement,problem-solving,avoidance,and attention distracting under the blended teaching mode, and the overall frequency of using these strategies is at a moderate level.Among them, the strategy most frequently used by the students is the strategy of self-efficacy enhancement, and the strategy least frequently used is the strategy of avoidance.(3)There exist no correlations in the use of anxiety self-regulation strategies among art and PE majors with different personality tendencies.Among them, extroverts tend to use self-regulation strategies more than introverts. There exist no correlations between art and PE majors in the use of anxiety self-regulation strategies.Specifically,PE majors use self-regulation strategies more frequently than art majors. However, there exist significant and positive correlations in the use of anxiety self-regulation strategies among art and PE majors with different English anxiety levels.Specifically, there are great differences in the use of avoidance strategies among students with different English anxiety levels. That is to say, students with higher anxiety levels would use avoidance more frequently.Based on the research results and the learning characteristics of art and PE majors, this research puts forward some strategies to alleviate the English learning anxiety of art and PE majors. For teachers, teachers should give more encouragement to students and design classroom activities according to the professional characteristics of art and PE majors.Meanwhile, for students, students should be aware of their anxiety, master the corresponding self-regulation strategies, and learn to take active measures consciously to relieve anxiety,so as to obtain better learning results.
