While the rapid transformation of society has brought about unprecedented changes,it has also highlighted the plight of disadvantaged children in society. The Convention on the Protection of the Rights of the Child, promulgated by the 44 th session of the United Nations General Assembly in 1989,has given further impetus to addressing children’s issues worldwide.Protecting the legitimate rights and interests of children, especially disadvantaged and vulnerable children,so that they can grow up healthy and happy is as much about the welfare of children as it is about the development of the country and the future prospects of the socialist cause.Visual documentation is a reflection on real life and the most direct means of directly participating in the protection of disadvantaged children and speaking out for them.In the late 1990 s,with the gradual spread of portable filming equipment,a new wave of children’s documentaries was ushered in,and in the two decades of documentaries looking at vulnerable children’s issues, children as subjects were often ’weakened’ by their creators and constructed as ’pathetic’.This over-interpretation of suffering, and the construction of "pity" as a synonym for the subject, has often been the subject of documentaries. This over-interpretation of suffering and neglect of children’s subjective voice has made it difficult for audiences to clearly recognise a realistic,three-dimensional image of disadvantaged children. This article focuses on how to better portray people in documentaries about disadvantaged children and better care for them, exploring the new face of disadvantaged children in terms of characterisation, personality and spirituality in the current social context, and analysing and interpreting the personal work Alleyway to Watch. In the first chapter, the definition of "documentary film about vulnerable children" is firstly analysed and the characteristics of documentary films about vulnerable children are summarised. Then, from the existing documentaries on disadvantaged children,we analyse the typological characteristics of the construction of the image of disadvantaged children in current documentaries. Finally, the image of the child is interpreted from the perspective of the "other" in the context of different life relationships. In the second chapter, the creative approach to documentary films about disadvantaged children is analysed in terms of creative strategies and visualisation strategies. In the selection of characters, the restoration of children’s lives, and the change of camera and colour, the creators of documentaries on disadvantaged children are asked to present to the audience a realistic and three-dimensional "dynamic" image of disadvantaged children in line with the development of the times,so as to enter the inner world of the children and arouse the audience’s interest in the spiritual power of "disadvantaged children".This will help the audience to think about the spiritual power of "disadvantaged children".At the same time, the strategy of constructing the characters in the graduation work "The Watch in the Lane" is discussed. In the third chapter,we study and analyse the creation of some domestic and international documentaries on disadvantaged children, and try to present the problems in the construction of the image of disadvantaged children in documentaries and the filming methods of the creators. At the same time,it proposes corresponding strategies for the construction of the image of disadvantaged children in documentaries in the light of the graduation work "The Watch in the Lane".In the fourth chapter, the work is interpreted from the perspectives of pre-planning and narrative techniques. The shortcomings and gains of the graduation work are analysed, with a view to providing lessons for subsequent documentary filmmakers on disadvantaged children. In the author’s view, the creation of a documentary on disadvantaged children should be closely integrated with specific practical works, based on the children observed and their living environment and psychological needs, and created from a "child-centred" perspective.Respecting the expression of children’s subjects, bringing the disadvantaged groups into line with the times and the media, constructing a realistic and three-dimensional image of children in line with the background of the times, and applying theoretical knowledge to concrete practical creation, accumulating experience for the construction of the image of disadvantaged children in the future.
