In the long history of Chinese intellectual development, the body has often been a puppet with a mask;it can be prescribed by morality and manipulated by politics, but rarely has the opportunity to dance alone. However, such a situation seems to have been broken in the Wei and Jin dynasties. The ultimate experience of the body and emotions of the Wei and Jin scholars is worthy of deep consideration by today’s people. The best of them, such as Jikang, shone so brightly that he even sacrificed his own lives to politics, the pursuit of natural harmony, and the pursuit of self-realization with his own body.Such a charming style of the times, such a bright and clear image of the body, deserves our attention and inquiry.Based on the existing research on JI Kang, this paper draws on the two body theories of "body-subject" and "form-air-soul" to study JI Kang’s body image from the perspective of literature and art,and attempts to uncover the body style of Wei-Jin scholars and the spiritual connotation of Wei-Jin style. The whole paper is divided into three parts: introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction mainly provides an overview of the current situation, purpose and significance of the dissertation research, aiming to grasp the direction of the dissertation as a whole. The main part includes the following aspects:(1)Resources of Chinese and Western body theories: This chapter mainly makes a crawl through the development process of Chinese and Western body theories.First, from Nietzsche, through Merleau-Ponty,Foucault and others,a Western theory of the body has been gradually constructed, mainly concerning the "body-subject";second,ancient Chinese Confucianism,Taoism and Wei-Jin metaphysical thought all contain the understanding and thinking about the body, brewing the unique Chinese characteristics of the "form-qi-shen" body system structure model.(2)Representation of Jikang’s natural body image: This chapter attempts to place Jikang’s body in time and space. From the time dimension,Jikang’s body shows a beautiful image of both form and spirit. With the development of time, the image of Jikang’s body after death undergoes immortalization and deification, which hides the idea that people deliver Jikang’s body to ghosts and gods to seek a logical transformation of life after death. From the spatial dimension, the darkness of realpolitik forces Jikang to seek a physical change of scene. He lived in seclusion in Shanyang and sought immortality.Whether this body-transformation was real or virtual,Jikang made an attempt at it.(3)The writing of Jikang’s body image of health care: This chapter focuses on three aspects: form, spirit, and qi.In terms of form, abstinence, food consumption, and abstinence are Jikang’s attempts to nourish the body’s form.In contrast to form,Jikang believes that God governs form, and he advocates letting the self-body isolate itself from fame and fortune, embrace nature, harmonize with things, and complete the nurturing of the divine mind by connecting with the Tao.The role of qi in Jikang’s body image of nourishment is also noted.Qi not only nourishes the nature, but also nourishes the body.Jikang achieved the purpose of nourishing and strengthening his body by inhaling the natural qi of heaven and earth.(4)The construction of Jikang’s social body image: This chapter intends to study Jikang’s body image from the other’s perspective. When the field of study is no longer limited to the biological perspective,we can find that Jikang’s physical behavior in his interactions with friends is an expression of the inter-subjectivity of the body;In the face of death, the physical gesture of Jikang’s deathbed performance is a personal physical political protest, from which the event of three thousand eunuchs asking to be their teachers has been expanded into a class dissatisfaction with imperial power; When culture is linked to the body,we see that Jikang’s body converges the cultural imprints of both Confucianism and Taoism.(5)Behind the Body: This chapter attempts to broaden the horizon and focus on the hidden meaning behind Jikang’s body image.Through the study of Jikang’s body image,we can see the awakening and exaltation of individual consciousness in the Wei-Jin period and experience the connotation and expression of Wei-Jin style.More importantly, the study of Jikang’s body image can also shed light on where to put the body in today’s society,as Jikang tries to use his body posture to tell us how we should treat and put our body under the double attack of consumerism and technological rationality.
