The imperial examination system is the longest and most perfect and comprehensive talent selection system in the history of our country.Since the Sui and Tang Dynasties, the imperial examination system has gone through many dynasties and generations. The imperial examination system has been regarded as a ’ great ceremony of talent cultivation ’ by the rulers of the past dynasties. It is also known as the fifth largest invention of China by the world. It can be seen that the status of the imperial examination system in Chinese history cannot be underestimated. In the contemporary era,the imperial examination has long ceased to exist, but a long-term perfect system even if its " shape " is not,its " God " is still there. The imperial examination has experienced a long time, and there are many dynasties that are not found in other systems in history. Therefore,it is reasonable to believe that the imperial examination culture formed by it has been continued in a subtle way and has an impact on the contemporary era.The imperial examination is the only way for ancient students to enter the officialdom. If you want to find a good official position, you must achieve good results in the imperial examination. It can be seen that the imperial examination directly affects people ’s employment ideas and career planning at that time. For the contemporary era,the cultural system formed by the imperial examination system may have a long-term impact on the employment willingness of contemporary people.Based on the imperial examination system and the existing research on the influence of the imperial examination system on the contemporary era, this thesis analyzes whether the imperial examination culture formed by the system has an impact on the contemporary employment, and analyzes the literature according to the mechanism of the influence of cultural theory, and discusses the influence mechanism. In terms of empirical analysis, firstly, the density of Jinshi in Ming and Qing Dynasties in various prefecture-level cities and the proportion of employment in the first industry,namely,agriculture-related employment and private and individual employment, were selected for analysis, and the influence of Ming and Qing imperial examination culture on employment structure was studied from a macro level.Secondly,at the micro level, the questionnaire data of CFPS in 2012 are selected, and the ordinary least squares method,two-stage least squares method, probit model and other methods are used to analyze the individual ’s employment choice intention.Referring to the previous literature, the shortest river distance from the region to pine and bamboo forests was selected as the instrumental variable, and the results were still robust. Finally,in terms of mechanism analysis, the number of primary schools, junior high schools and universities in the 20 th century,as well as the number of ordinary middle schools and teachers, the number of books in public libraries, the number of academicians of China ’s engineering colleges and the number of academicians of science colleges in the region are selected. As well as the individual ’s attitude towards education, trust in others and other indicators, from the two major blocks of educational capital and ideological values to carry out relevant mechanism analysis. The macro level analysis shows that the greater the density of Jinshi in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the smaller the proportion of employment in the primary industry in the region, the smaller the proportion of private and individual employment, and the higher the proportion of employment in the tertiary industry, such as information transmission, software and information technology, scientific research and technology service industry. The micro-level analysis shows that the greater the density of Jinshi in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the smaller the employment bias of agriculture, planting, livestock and aquatic products in individual employment choices. After selecting different data sets and different indicators of imperial examination culture, the results are still robust. In the study of mechanism,it is found that the imperial examination culture prevailed in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, which promoted the intergenerational inheritance of educational capital and increased the contemporary educational capital.Individuals tend to choose new technology and scientific research related industries with higher requirements for academic qualifications and cultural level in employment. The greater the density of Jinshi in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the more attention individuals in the region pay to the education of their offspring and the higher the trust in strangers,so that individuals tend to choose industries such as high-tech and scientific research that require higher academic qualifications in employment. They are more inclined to participate in cooperation to promote collectivism, and the less biased towards the primary industry, namely agricultural production activities.Based on this, this thesis puts forward the following policy recommendations from the analysis of the influence of the imperial examination culture in the Ming and Qing Dynasties on the contemporary era.The imperial examination system is a great innovation and leap in the ancient talent selection mechanism. In the feudal society with strict hierarchy, the imperial examination system pursuing fairness and justice carries the highest ruler ’s desire for talents and the expectation of healthy social development, breaking the corruption of the bureaucratic class and the solidification of the social class before the emergence of the imperial examination system. The ideas of benevolence, erudition, knowledge without honor and the pursuit of literature and art advocated in the imperial examination system are worthy of contemporary study and thinking, and are an important part of the Chinese cultural tradition. Therefore, first of all,we can take the imperial examination culture as the starting point, actively spread the excellent traditional Chinese culture, discard the dross and select the essential, discard the false and retain the true, appoint people according to their talents,do not pay attention to the status and origin, and carry forward the diligence spirit of pursuing academic and the friendly quality of unity and cooperation.Second, the imperial examination system essentially promotes the development of education, and education is closely related to industry and employment. In the establishment and improvement of the contemporary talent selection and education system,it is necessary to consider its impact on the future employment of talents more comprehensively.Third, the formation of regional education capital and ideological values is closely related to the industrial development and employment structure of the region, and the influence relationship is relatively long-term and far-reaching.Therefore,in the long-term planning and design of policies, education and ideological values can be considered and promoted in order to achieve more robust and profound policy effects.
